Recap Week 13

Dawn Weber wasted no time in making her mark with a birdie on 1, followed by another on 6, resulting in an Individual win at +6. Joe Curtis continues to collect weekly payments with the regularity of a Whitey bagman from days of yore with a +5 night to hook up with always steady Steve Lozzi (+2) to earn Team honors. Closest to Pin on 6 was captured this week by Bob Frick who curled one in to within 9' 1". (Tuesday marked the fourth day in a row that Bob has won money playing golf; the M.G.A. is in the process of rescinding his amateur status.)  High-pointer for the week was Frank LaRosa with 19, and Dwayne Snell had his best night with a +4.

We had a barrel-full of birdies, of which four will pay. Dawn Weber's on 1 and 6 survived, as did Mike McNeice on 2, and Jim Lyons on 5. Smothered birds were on 3, (Karas, Barry, Dillon, Curtis), 4 (Lozzi, Spears), 8 (LaRosa. Lozzi), and 9 (Poverman, DaSaro, J. MacNeil, McNeice).

(The website will be updated if and when Johnny returns from a well-deserved vacation at an undisclosed location.)

Easton had its club championship this weekend, and Bob Frick and Saul Payne made SIGL proud by winning their respective divisions. Frickie was like a machine, playing 36 holes without a double bogey and hitting 26 of 36 greens in regulation to shoot 74 and 77 on his way to an exciting win, with SIGL emeritus Rich McKenna nipping at his heels. Dr. Payne, with the precision of a surgeon, I mean dentist, sewed up his bracket with a very impressive pair of 79s. Great job, boys. And Mayhem Mike Bradley has made it to the championship round of the divisional match play tournament. Good luck in the final, Mike.

The year-end tourney is scheduled for Sunday, September 22nd. Due to the early date, and the fact that we have had two rain postponements, the 20th and final week of the season would actually be played on Tuesday, 09/24, or after the year-end has already been played. Therefore, we have two options: 1) Play the 20th week on 09/24, even though it is after the tourney or 2) Forego the 20th week, and put the approximately $750 saved toward the year-end prizes and banquet. The consensus right now seems to be to go with Option 2, but we will defer to the majority opinion on it, so give us your feedback.

And the finance committee is happy to report that all players are now paid in full, and next week's planned public execution will be cancelled.

Our best wishes go out to Peter Jaffe, who had to undergo hand surgery and is battling a nasty infection after last week's unfortunate incident, and who will be unable to play anymore golf this season. Peter, get well soon and we will keep in touch.

And finally, it is with deep regret that we inform you of the death today of Ed Finn's mother. It is hard to imagine a better friend and more solid citizen than Ed, and our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. A wake will be held at Farley Funeral Home in Stoughton this Friday from 4 - 7 PM.

  See you next Tuesday
