This concludes the regular season, but as many groups will, feel free to keep your tee time on Tuesdays on your own dime until we are victims of the dark.

Well, we finished the year right around the norm as usual, with scores down the middle with 25 players exceeding quota, five right on the mark, and 21 not measuring up.

This humble hacker saved his best night for last with a hearty 18 points, good for a +7 and 1st Individual, and the first time on the money board.

Greg Paone continues his red-hot play right into the tournament,  topping last week's 19 points with a super 21 and a +6 which takes 2nd Individual.

Neither Individual winner had much help, so Team honors were there for taking. And so up stepped four players all at +4s. Although none of them, like Payne Stewart, wore plus fours. The pairing of Peter Frasca and Mike Leonard will take 1st Team at +8 in a cardoff win (Frasca par on 5) over the +8 of John Tracy and Mike Bradley.

Mike Wall finished the year with another envelope with his fine approach on the 6th hole to 15'7" winning Closest to Pin.

We had a healthy 11 birdies on the front side, but like last week on the front and back sides, there will be only one winner. And amazingly, it will be for a birdie on the 9th hole by John Tracy. (It's amazing that there was only one bird on 9. It's not amazing that John Tracy got a birdie.)

The 3rd hole was covered by Paone, Sweet, Pryles, and Leonard. The 5th did not survive (Barry, Paone, Mark Nolan), and the 8th went down (Barry, Paone, McDermott).

The back nine skins pool had 28 entrants and, like the front, there were 11 birdies sunk. With the only hole smashed being 13 (Thompson, J. Shannon, Babyak, J. MacNeil, Doonan), there were a very unusual 6 skins: Finn (10), Lozzi (11), Thompson (12), Danieli (14), Lozzi (15), and Lozzi on 16.

And with six pars and three birdies, Steve Lozzi had a fantastic 32 on the back nine, the second time this year that Lozz went 3 under on a side.

Notables who did not cash: Mark Nolan at +5, and Dylan Amaral, Mike Sweet, and Joe Curtis at +3. Highpointer was Greg Paone with 21 points.

We forgot to mention last week but it seems that every ECC tourney is dominated more by SIGLers than the last one. The VJL Cup was held a couple of weeks ago, and SIGL practically swept the field: 1st Place was taken by Steve Lozzi, Lou Silva, Mike Wall, and Rich White. And we had Bob Loring and Len Lima as part of the 2nd placers, TJ James and Paul McDermott in for 3rd, and John Hrenko and Steve Danieli 4th. Nice job men!

And finally, last call to let us know if you are not playing in the tourney. If you are a no-show, no-tell, then you will be billed by SIGL for a greens fee and dinner. Teams and other details of the tourney will be forthcoming soon.

  See you on October 4th.

This week was a little below average with 24 not making the grade, 7 hitting their mark on the button, and 21 exceeding quota, with only six players better than +2.

Dylan Amaral popped for a season best 39, good for 15 points, and a +6, good for 1st Individual.

We had a three-way tie at +4 for 2nd Individual between Greg Paone, Jim Shannon, and Brian Murphy. And Mr. Paone's birdie on 5 will settle the matter.

Dylan (+6) drew a good partner in the the steady Mike Silva, who threw in a respectable +1 to contribute to 1st Team honors.

Jim Shannon (+4) lost out on the 2nd Ind. card-off, but will cash in for 2nd Team with the always dependable Mike McNeice who came in at Even, for a team +4.

Ed Finn bent one in toward the hole on 4, and his 6'4" was not seriously challenged the rest of the day for a CTP reward.

For whatever reason the putts were not dropping as an anemic five birdies bids found the hole on the front, on only three holes. When the dust cleared the only live skin was that of Dan Svirsky on 6, and Dan will take the whole pot. The only other birdies were Paone and Wall on 5, and Paone and J. Shannon on the 9th.

We had the largest Backnine skins pool of the year with 30 entrants, and there were eight contender birdies. But as on the front, only one stood above the rest, and that would be Chris Regan's 3 on the 18th hole. And so Chris can look forward to collecting his $150 envelope next week. Smashed holes were 11 (Bourne, Thompson), 12 (Babyak, Regan) and 13 (Doonan, J. Shannon, Regan).

As noted, there were only six players who exceeded +2 this week, and three were rewarded with cash. The tough luckers who did not were Brian Murphy at +4 and Terry Thompson and Dan Szczurko at +3. Highpointer was Greg Paone with 19 points.

And finally, there will be some covid policy restrictions pertaining to the year-end banquet. The dinner line will be inside, but our tables will be on the patio outside the function room. Tables will be spread out and there will be only four persons at each table. Easton requires table assignments and that the assignment is based on who you play with. (Whoever you play with, you sit with.) This year, we will make every effort to pair you up with golfers that you typically play with during the season. However, since each group must have an A, B, C, and D player, there are limitations to this.

And don't forget: If you will not be playing, you must let us know now.

   See you next Tuesday.

So, where were we? Hard to believe but we have only two weeks left to play. And that means that it's almost time for the year-end tourney. It will be held on Sunday, Oct 4th at 8:30 AM with tee times followed by an outdoor (the function room patio with tent) banquet. Next week there will be a sheet that everyone must sign. Next to your name write IN or OUT. No MAYBES and if it remains blank after Week 20, then you will not be in the tourney.

We had a weak turnout Tuesday with 11 no-shows. Scores were right around the norm with 24 players above quota, 7 on the mark, and 19 below their number.

Mike Leonard continues his outstanding play and had a season-high 14 points good for +6 and 1st Individual. Dylan Amaral also had his season high 14 points, resulting in a +5 and 2nd Individual in a card-off win over Peter Frasca's fine +5.

Andy Pryles had another outstanding night at +4 and was paired with the always steady Steve Lozzi who chipped in with a +3 to take 1st Team at +7.

Mike Leonard's 1st Individual +6 was partnered with an Even from Chris Regan to earn 2nd Team honors at +6.

Mr. Regan was looking good all day for Closest to Pin on the 2nd hole, but late in the day Greg Willard snuck one in to 3'10".

The greens were not rolling and there was a measly eight birdies on the front side, and half will get rewarded. Chris Regan birdied the 2nd, Bob Loring on 6, Dan Szczurko had a 3 on the 7th, and surprisingly, Andy Pryles had the only bird on 9. The 5th (Thompson, Frasca), and the 8th (Lozzi, Finn) were covered.

The was a season-high $140 in the backnine skins pool and there were twice as many birdies on the back as there were on the front. Survivors were Terry Thompson on 10, Bob Bourne on 11, Rich White-15, and Ned Babyak on the 17th. Covered: 12: Hrenko, J. Shannon, 13: Leonard, Svirsky, White, McNeice, Thompson, Doonan, 14: J. MacNeil, Svirsky, Doonan, and 18: Frasca, McDermott.

Players with outstanding nights who did not cash: Frasca +5, Silvia, D. Willard, Bradley at +4, and Finn and Meyer at +3. Highpointer was Steve Lozzi with 17.

And finally, The Dirty Dozen wants to say thanks to all of you who expressed your concern the past few weeks over our recent unfortunate travails.

  See you next Tuesday.

We had the lowest attendance of the year, with 10 players AWOL. But we continued our fine play with 25 exceeding quota, 10 hitting their number on the dot, and 15 coming up short.

This week's young standout was rookie Andy Pryles who popped for 16 points, good for +7 and 1st Individual. Chris Sullivan continues his resurgence with an outstanding +6 to take 2nd Individual.

Andy had just enough help from partner Bill McIntyre at +2 to give Pryles/McIntyre a +9 and 1st Team honors. And likewise, Mr. Sullivan was not hurt, with his partner Bill Simmons providing a +1 and they will take 2nd Team at +7.

Top dog Andy Pryles added to his winnings with a tight approach on the 4th to earn CTP honors. (Although he could use some practice on how to fill out the marker.)

There were a modest 10 birdies on the front, and surprisingly five of those will get paid. John MacNeil was all alone in birdieing 2, his partner in crime Joe Curtis followed that with one on 3, Andy converted his six-footer on the 4th, a tough pin on 6 did not deter Chris (Sully) Sullivan from a deuce on 6, Jim (Shanny) Shannon recorded a bird on the 7th.

The 5th hole was cancelled by Hrenko and Dasaro, while 9 had birds by Paone, Wall, and M. Silva. (Knowing that a birdie is seldom good enough for a skin on 9, Mike Silva made a chip-in eagle on 9 in his Wednesday morning group.)

The Back Nine skins pool had 21 entrants with 8 birdie bids finding the hole. But only one was unequaled, that being putting guru Bob Bourne's bird on 10. giving Bob the whole $105 pot. The 12th hole did not survive (Regan, M. Silva) and the 13th was humbled by Mark Nolan, Regan, Lozzi, Svirsky, J. Shannon.

There were many fine scores that will go unrewarded. Leading the list is Bob Loring at +5, followed by Hrenko, Babyak, and Meyer at +4, and +3 was posted by Lozzi, Turchette, Dasaro, Wall, and Moore. Highpointer is Johnny MacNeil with 18.

And finally, SIGLers who occasionally bring a guest, please make sure that your guest's name does not end up on the SIGL sign-in sheet. Although the guest pays for himself at the desk before play, if the clerk puts the guest's name on the SIGL sheet it causes a billing problem and confusion, which has to be straightened out with Easton. Obviously, the desk clerk is getting the name from either you or your guest, so it is up to you the SIGL member to see that your guest's name does not show up on SIGL paperwork.

   See you next Tuesday.

                WHAT'S YOUR GUEST'S NAME?

I REFUSE TO ANSWER THAT ON THE
GROUNDS THAT YOU MIGHT FUCK IT UP

Well, we dodged another weather bullet Tuesday although torrential rains and wind late affected a couple of groups. Another fine day and night was had Tuesday as we had 25 players beat quota, 11 hit their quota on the dot, and 17 not measure up.

For the second week in a row, Jamie Gormley was red hot on the back of two birdies and his +8 will take 1st Individual. Also continuing a hot streak from last week is Dan McGarry whose +6 will earn him 2nd Individual.

For the Team competition, Dan's partner certainly did his part as Mark Spears paired his fine +4 with Mr. McGarry's +6 to take 1st Team at +10. A tie for 2nd Team at +6 between Mike McNeice (+3) and Dan Szczurko (+3), and Jamie Gormley +8/Mike Silva -2 was settled in a card-off with Mr. McNeice's par on the fifth.

Lou Silva went out early and posted a superb 3'11" on the 2nd hole for Closest to Pin, which looked like it would hold up all day, but Terry Moore came along late and rolled one to 3'9" to take the honors. (Although Lou was disappointed to lose CTP, he was secretly proud that he was two inches longer.)

There were a generous 17 birdies on the front this week but only four survived. Lou Silva started off on the right foot with a birdie on 1, second-half newcomer Bill McIntyre got on the money board with a bird on the 5th, Rick Walsh, putting from off the green dropped it in for a deuce on 6, and the always dependable Bob Bourne drained his birdie bid on 7. Birdies on the following holes were covered: 2 (Finn, Doonan, Tracy, Wall, Gormley, Silva), 4 (Lozzi, Bourne), 8 (McDermott, M. Silva, Barry), and the 9th (J. MacNeil, Gormley). For the second straight week, the 3rd was the only hole to repel all birdie bids.

There were 26 who entered the B9 skins pool and three will be paid. Ed Finn had the sole bird on 12, and Eric Aronson rode a gale-force wind on 13 to hit a gargantuan drive, leaving an easy approach in. On in two, he then drained the putt for the eagle. Nice job, Eric. And Rich White will take a third of the pot with his fine birdie on the 15th.

Uncompensated notable  performances this week were this humble hacker at +5, Lima, Dasaro, Doonan, and Tracy at +4, and James, McDermott, and Raynard at +3.

And finally, once again SIGLers did themselves proud in Easton CC tourney play. In last weekend's club championship, a tip of the cap to Greg Paone for a T1st in the A flight while his Tuesday playing partner Mike Wall took 3rd. Bob Loring earned 3rd in B, and congrats to TJ James with his win in D and to Len Lima for his fine 2nd place showing. Nice work men.

 See you next Tuesday.

WEEK 13 CTP    2ND HOLE

The weather threatened but didn't dare break up our run of great Tuesdays although staying in the shade helped to get through the round. Scores were a bit above normal with 22 players exceeding quota, 15 hitting their number exactly, and 16 falling short.

There was a handful of big plus scores and they were led by Greg Paone's big night. With three birds, five pars and a bogey, it doesn't take a math teacher to figure out that that comes out to a two under par 34 (career low?), a mighty 23 points, and a winning +9 for 1st Individual.

We had a backup at +7 for 2nd, among Dan McGarry, Chris Sullivan, Jamie Gormley, and Bob Shannon, and Jamie settled that quickly with his birdie on 1, his first of the year coming at an opportune time.

Mr. Gormley and his +7 also had the good fortune to have a solid partner this week so Scott Silvia's strong +3 will give the duo an outstanding +10 and 1st Team. Being paired with standout Greg Paone, Eric Aronson didn't hurt the cause with an Even, so they took 2nd Team with +9.

On the 9th hole, we had the rare tie for Closest to Pin with Greg Willard and Mike Wall both recording 8'10" and so the prize will be split.

We had a plentiful 16 birdies on the front with three paying off.
Jamie Gormley's 3 on the opening hole held up, Greg Paone's bird on 5 paid off, and Chris Sullivan, who had a career high 12 points bagged a skin on the 7th hole.

Covered holes: 2nd (Paone, McNeice, Walsh), 4th (Wall, Aronson), 6th (Musgrove, L. Silva), 8th (Paone, J. MacNeil) and the 9th (B. Shannon, G. Willard, Wall, L. Silva). The 3rd was the only hole without a circle.

The Back Nine birdie pool had 26 entrants and four winners: Greg Willard on 10, Mark Nolan, the 14th, Alex Turchette 15, and Bill Doonan on 18. Birdies on 12 (M. Silva, Lozzi, Regan), 13 (M. Silva, Silvia, G. Willard, D. Willard) and 16 (M. Silva, Mark Nolan, Sullivan, Turchette).

Notables who did not cash were Dan McGarry and Bob Shannon at +7, Wayne Musgrove at +6, and Lou Silva and Steve Dasaro at +4. Highpointer was Greg Paone.

And in the Grind It Out Dept.: Mark Spears had the hardest earned point you can imagine on the 3rd hole Tuesday:  First tee shot OB left. Second tee ball in woods on right, punch out to fairway, now laying 4. Sky it over the water and drop it in the hole for a 5. Nice.

As we start the second half, welcome aboard to newcomers Bob Shannon and Bill McIntyre.

Three times in the last two weeks, players have asked how to collect their winnings from the previous week: We thought it was pretty clear all year: If you have an envelope coming from the previous week, tell the desk clerk when you sign in, and he will give it to you.

And finally, this weekend brings Massachusetts amateur golf's premier event with the two-day Easton Country Club's club championship. Good luck to all SIGLers!

  See you next Tuesday.

                                    GREG WILLARD          19 pts.

Our run of good Tuesday weather continues and so does our good play. Star of the day this week is Dan Svirsky, who tied his Easton CC career low round with a 75, and for the league nine, a super even par 36, good for 19 points and a +9. Also, having his best night of the year was Greg Willard with his own 19 points, for a nice +7.

Dan had more than enough from his partner, Dana Willard, who chipped in with his own +4 to easily take 1st Team at +13. Willard the Younger's partner also did not disappoint as Mark Spears posted a solid +1 to take 2nd Team at +8.

There were numerous tight shots into the 8th Hole, but none better than Ed Finn's 7'9" as he took Closest to Pin honors.

There were a healthy 14 birdies on the front, three of which will be rewarded with cash. Lou Silva made up for a wayward tee ball on 4 with a pitch-in from the pine straw flat behind the hole to record a deuce, Greg Willard will add to his Team and Individual prizes with a skin on the 5th, and Scott Silvia continues his fine play, and this week will get paid for his birdie on 7. The 2nd (Loring, M. Silva), 3rd (Bourne, Paone), 6th (Frasca, Svirsky). 8th (Finn, Bourne), and the 9th (L. Silva, G. Willard, Paone) were smashed.

The Back Nine skins pool continues to grow, and this week, we had 29 entrants. Rich White took only two shots to complete the 10th hole for the rare par-4 eagle, ace Chris Regan cashed with a birdie on 14, Bob Loring capped off an outstanding night with a winning bird on 15, and his partner Steve Lozzi was not to be outdone, so did the same on the 16th. As usual, the 13th hole had a few (Mark Nolan, Silvia, Regan.)

Outstanding but unlucky performers this week were Mike Sweet at +6, Wayne Musgrove (+5) and Babyak, Meyer, Paone, and Simmons all at +4.

Just the Facts Ma'am: To dispel the mistaken notion that playing from the combination tees is too easy for the top flight, long-hitting players, and that they are eating up the white tee holes, here are some interesting numbers: Through 11 weeks, there have been a total of 108 birdies and one eagle on the front nine. But only 16 of them have been from white tee holes.

                                           Birdies

                 Blue Tees                                          White Tees

Hole  2          14                                     Hole  1         3
Hole  3          14                                     Hole  5         6
Hole  4            9                                     Hole  7         7
Hole  6          15
Hole  8          19 and 1 eagle
Hole  9          21

Total              92 and 1 eagle                                     16

There have been 1,815 chances for birdies this year from white tee holes (an average of 55 golfers x 11 weeks x 3 holes) and there has been a total of 16 birdies, half of which are from non-A flight players, so no, the long hitters are not exactly bringing Easton to its knees from the white tees.

And again, SIGLers continue to really shine in Easton club tournaments. This week, congratulations to TJ James and Paul McDermott as part of the 1st place foursome. And a tip of the cap to the T2nd place foursome of Saul Payne, Steve Lozzi, Mike Sweet, and Mike Silva. And nabbing 4th, were Bob Loring, Greg Paone, and Rich White. Nice job men.

And finally, there was an extremely unsatisfactory 19 players who did not pay 2nd half dues as required this week. Your scores and other results will not be counted next week unless your delinquent payment is in the box by the end of the night. And for the two players who won money this week but have not paid their dues, don't be asking the desk for an envelope until you are paid up.

  See you next Tuesday.
