The bad news is that our season was truncated at Week 17, but the goods news is that that left us a pile of dough for the year-end, in addition to an expense-free tourney for all SIGL members. With side pools added in, we distributed $5,210 in prize money for the day. Between weekly prize money, weekly skins pool, back-nine skins pool, tourney prize money, and tourney skins and birdie pools, there was a total $10,675 stuffed into envelopes this year. That's called pushing the envelopes!

Sunday, we had 22 players win $100 or more, and seven of those won $200 or more. Leading the pack on the money list was Wayne Musgrove who walked away with $655 in cash, and, I'm not sure but maybe a $50 gift certificate. (If anyone other than Bob Loring won the other $50 gift instead of Wayne, e-mail me before I ship off the official results to the World Golf Hall of Fame archives.)

But the real star of the day was good guy Jay Chapman, who had his greatest day on a golf course ever. Needing a modest 6 quota points, Jay was unconscious and produced an amazing 22 points to return a +16 for his team. He was thrilled enough to win Closest to Pin on 4, but he wasn't done yet, and on the 14th hole, it took him but one swing of the club to complete the hole, as he carded his first ever Hole in One! Way to go Jay. With his +16 day, Jay led the way for his team of Peterson, Musgrove, and Mark Nolan to a first place finish at +12, good for $800.

Mike McNeice continued to be hot as a pistol and finished the season with a real flourish. After carding a 74 and 75 in the final two weeks of the season, Mike kept it going with another super 75 in the tourney on the back of four birdies, none of which, unfortunately lived as skins. His outstanding 36 points earned him a +11, and earned his team of Payne, Bino, and Meyer 2nd place at +11, and $600 for the team.

The reclusive Greg Paone made a rare appearance for the tourney, and turned in a cool +6 to lead his team of Keating, Walsh, and Sullivan to a 3rd place finish at +4 and $500.

No other teams finished in plus territory.

Closest to Pin prizes were awared to Jay Chapman, Bob Loring, Jay Chapman, and Steve Danieli, while big hitters Eric Aronson and Rick Keating prevailed in the Long Drive contests.

Other individual notables on the day were Steve DaSaro at +6 and Ed Finn and Rich White at +5.
(Steve was an alternate so he received two Team envelopes, but Dan Szczurko commandeered Steve's winnings as an alternate to give to Sean Knowles who couldn't make the tourney at the last minute.)

There was a total of $780 in the skins pool, and it paid off handsomely for a couple of our finest members. All year long, it was not unusual for the 8th and 9th hole to be birdied three, four, or even five times in a night. But amazingly Sunday, there was only one bird on 8 and one on 9. Also, amazingly, those were the only birdies to survive for the day. (The eagle on 14 was not in the skins pool.) So, much to their surprise, but not to their chagrin, Wayne Musgrove (8th) and Steve Lozzi (9th) were rewarded with $390 each for their efforts. So all it took to pocket $405 ($15 in the pay-all pool) was to birdie two of the easiest holes on the course. What a country!

Covered birdies on 6,10,12, and 14 were paid $15 each. Jay's eagle on 14 earned him $35 in the pay-all pool. As noted, Mike McNeice had four birdies, and Mark Nolan had two.

Well, that about does it for another year. Do they seem to go by quicker every year? (I'm starting to sound like an old man. Oh yeah, I am an old man.)

  See you next year.
