Well, we had the best turnout of the year, and the best scoring of the year, too, with 34 players exceeding quota, 12 at even, and only 13 below. Even better, there were only five teams under quota.

The best of the lot this week though is Bob Williams who posted a career high 11 points, good for an outstanding +6 and 1st Individual. Right behind Bob, we find Alex Turchette and rookie Dan Raymo, who both posted strong +5s, with Dan taking 2nd Individual in the tiebreaker, and Alex accepting 3rd.

All three Individual winners will also be part of the three winning Teams. Dan (+5) had the strongest partner in Mike Leonard's +3, and they will take 1st Team honors at +8. Bob (+6) was paired with Greg Jurgy who finished +1, and their +7 will best the +7 of Alex (+5) and Larry Barry's +2.

Ed Finn's approach on the 8th to 7'8" looked good until late in the day when Dylan Amaral just missed an eagle as his ball came to rest 18" from the hole, to take the CTP prize.

There were a decent 14 birdies sunk on the front, with two survivors. Paul Murphy had a good night, especially with a $60 birdie on 3, and rookie Tim Greene will receive his first envelope for his fine birdie on the 7th hole. With 4, 5, 6, 8, and 9 covered, 1 and 2 were the only holes not birdied. Covered: 4th: Paone, Szczurko. 5th: Finn, Raymo. 6th: Barry, Leonard, Dugan. 8th: Finn, Newman, Amaral. 9th: Paone, J. MacNeil.

As usual, there were a lot of good scores that were not rewarded. Notables who did not cash are Tracy, Newman, and Spears, all at +4 and Dugan, Haslam, Gormley, Moore, and Pete Murphy at +3. This week, highpointer honors will go to Greg Paone and Paul Newman at 16 points.

The Back Nine skins pool had 26 entrants, nine birdies, and two skins. Another rookie, Ronnie Duff was the sole birder on the 10th, and the always solid Steve Lozzi will get an envelope for his 3 on 12. Naturally the 13th hole was covered (McDermott, Dugan, Silvia) but it was surprising to see four birdies on 15: Duff, Turchette, White, Silvia.

A tip of the cap to Mike Wall who, last Wednesday, aced the 6th hole at Easton for his first career hole in one. With his strong game, no doubt Mike has put a thousand shots within a few feet of the pin through the years, so it's nice to see one finally drop in.

And as predicted, SIGLers kicked some ass again in Easton CC tournament play. Of 14 Eastoners who finished in the money, 10 were SIGLers! Congrats to Paul McDermott who was one half of the 1st Place duo. Chuck Mathieson and Mike Leonard took T2nd, TJ and Jurgy nabbed 4th, and M. Silva, Svirsky, Danieli, White, and McNeice were all T5. Nice job men.

And finally, Steve Danieli and Jay Chapman - pick up your envelopes from previous weeks, before we donate the money to The Little Sisters of the Poor.

  See you next Tuesday.

Well, after a couple of weeks of anemic scores, we seem to have found our groove thing with a lot of really fine scoring. We had 26 players exceed quota, 15 meet their number, and 16 who fell short.

Saul Payne had his best day since graduating from dental school, as he had his SIGL career best 14 points, good for a robust +8 and 1st Individual. Steve Danieli continues on a torrid pace, posting a super +7 and taking 2nd. And it was only a matter of time before the ever steady Bob Loring would emerge from hibernation, as he carded a stellar total of 17 points and a +6, good for a card-off win over this humble hacker for 3rd Individual.

Mr. Loring's strong showing was nicely complemented his by scoring and playing partner Len Lima, who pitched in with a +1 to take the pair to +7 and a 1st Team win, when the card revealed that the Loring/Lima duo bested the +7 of Saul Payne (+8) and Sean Knowles (-1), who will take 2nd Team honors.

Three teams vied for the 3rd spot at +6, and the card decided that Paul Murphy's +3 with Jay Chapman's like number will prevail over Bob Williams (+5)/John MacNeil (+1) and Steve Danieli (+7)/Ted Meyer (-1).

It was a tough pin on 6 for CTP, and so TJ's 12 feet looked really good until Mr. Dan Svirsky came along and stuck one to 2'3". Nice.

For all the good scoring there was a modest ten birdies sunk on the front, and three will be rewarded: Dan Svirsky sunk his 2 footer on 6, Larry Barry rolled in a curler on the 7th, and Paul McDermott carded a 3 on the 8th hole, which surprisingly lived. Smashed birds were on 2 (James, Musgrove), 5 (Loring, Danieli, Szczurko), and the 9th (Lima/Barry).

There were a lot of really good numbers posted, but the hard-luck strong performers were: Mike Leonard and Bob Williams each at +5, Nick Dejesus and Dan Szczurko recording +4s, and TJ, Greg Willard, and Robert Redford... I mean Paul Newman at +3. Highpointer honors this week will be shared by B. Loring and L. Barry at 17 points.

Each week the backnine skins pool has been steadily growing, and this week there were a hardy 33 entrants with a $165 pot. So it was a good time for somebody to get a sole survivor bird and take the whole thing. So thank you one and all for your folded finskies. There were ten other birdies that cancelled each other out: 12th: Mike Silva, Scott Silvia; the 13th with Lima, Mathieson, Finn, J. MacNeil, and Barry, and the 18th hole: J. MacNeil, Chuck Mathieson, and Rich White.

And finally, good luck to all SIGLers who will be playing in the Easton CC two-day tourney this weekend. If the past is any indication, it's a good bet that next week we will be reporting on the usual SIGL dominance in these events.

  See you next Tuesday.

Well, it's time once again to dip our hand into the SIGL Excuse Bag to come up with why we sucked two weeks in a row now. And, let's see....it's aerated greens, yeah that's it. We had 30 players fail to reach quota, eight who broke even, and 17 who surpassed their number. And only six teams had a plus aggregate. There were a measly six birdies on the front and five on the backside.

But going against the grain, Steve Danieli chose this week to have his best performance in a while with a strong +6 to take 1st Individual. Right behind him (no jokes please) was Mayhem Mike Bradley who returned a stellar +5 to secure 2nd. And after a card-off with Bill McIntyre and Jamie Gormley, Andrew Dugan will take 3rd Individual at +4.

Danieli and Bradley had no help from their respective partners (that's being kind) but Andrew Dugan at +4 drew his playing partner Chris Haslam as an alternate (+1) to take 1st Team at +5. Ed Finn cashes two weeks in a row with a solid +3, and paired with alternate Nick DeJesus (E) will earn 2nd Team. A card-off was needed for 3rd, and Bill McIntyre's +4 coupled with Bill Simmons at -2 was good enough to prevail over Danieli/Walsh.

Apparently rookie Chuck Mathieson thinks the weekly CTP prize is his personal piggy bank, as his 10'5" on the 4th hole went unsurpassed all day long.

As noted, there was a paltry six birdies on the frontside, with two paying off. Johnny MacNeil gets on the gravy train with a bird on 6, and rookie Ronnie Duff had a nice 3 on the 7th, and they will split the pot. Hard luck birders were TJ and Mark Nolan on the 5th hole and Ed Finn and Steve Danieli on 9.

Even with a robust 31 entrants in the back nine skins pool, there were only five birds, and again, two will be rewarded. Rich White salvaged a disappointing round with a lucrative bird on 16, and Chris Regan, who has a knack for collecting envelopes, will add to his retirement fund with the sole birdie on 18. The 13th was birdied by Mathieson, Duff, and Mike Silva.

I haven't processed all the checks yet, but anyone who has played either Week 1 or Week 2 and hasn't paid yet, will be dropped from the roster. Also, with membership bursting at the seams with 68 players, SIGL is not currently accepting any more newcomers. We will reassess at the beginning of the second half. And finally, for newcomers this year, no you can't bring in a guest as a substitute for yourself or someone in your foursome. Your dues covers you only. If, on occasion, a non-SIGLers plays in your group, he must pay his own greens fee and make sure to keep his name off the SIGL sign-in sheet. Thanks.

 See you next Tuesday.
