First, congrats to TJ for being half of the winning duo in last weekend's two-day tourney at Easton.

And Lou Silva, last call to claim your Week 1 winnings before we donate it to The Little Sisters of the Poor.

If we make it to the end of the season, the year-end tourney is scheduled for Sunday October 4th. Either an 8:30 shotgun or 11:30 tee times.

Normally, we would be writing a recap of Tuesday's results and other related stories right about now. But instead, we are forced to address other issues:

Easton CC has informed us that SIGL groups were observed congregating and hanging around for an extended time after their round Tuesday. Easton cannot be clearer about this: You cannot gather and loiter in the parking lot before or after your round. The Easton Board of Health has already warned Easton CC about this after the Board either observed or received a complaint regarding this a couple of weeks ago. (Not SIGL). There have been six Mass. golf courses closed down after reopening because of their failure and the failure of their golfing customers to comply with the regs.
Easton has informed us that any group that gathers and hangs out will be immediately suspended from play for an indefinite period of time.

There will no longer be a block of tee times set aside for SIGL
from 3:45 - 5. The reason is that there are so many groups that have always normally played within that timeframe that are now reserving early tee times, that much of the SIGL block has been empty. Tuesday, there were six tee times that went unfilled because they were reserved for SIGL but not used by SIGL. Those are all times that Easton could have sold to outside golfers but didn't because they were reserved for us.

The new policy is that every SIGL group must make a tee time.
You may play at any time of the day, including our old timeblock.
Keep in mind that tee times earlier than our traditional block are subject to a small upcharge because the greens fees are higher for earlier times than they are for the $27 4:00 PM+ times. SIGL will cover $27 for all non-Easton CC golfers, and you are responsible for the rest. You may make a tee time one week ahead. So, for instance, when you check in to play on June 1st., make your tee time for June 8th.

Soon, food and beverages will be available in the clubhouse for takeout. Easton has informed us that they are aware that some groups have been bringing their own beer onto the course, despite the fact that it is prohibited. Now that alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase, Easton is informing us that under no circumstances will "bring your own booze" be allowed. Violation of this policy will result in immediate suspension from play for an indefinite period of time.

Remember to wear a mask in the pro shop and now also in the clubhouse. Also, walkers in a group cannot hitch a ride with a cartrider in the group. For instance, when finishing the 12th hole, a walker cannot jump in the cart of a fellow player to get over to the white tee on 13.

That's it for now. (I used to look forward to Tuesdays.)

WEEK 3 CTP:       6TH HOLE

And I thought we were bad last week. Even after quotas went down after last week's scores, we actually played worse this week with only nine individuals exceeding quota and only six teams besting their number, with no team better than +2.

Rookie Mike Wall kicked off his SIGL career with a solid +3 that took 1st Individual honors. We had a traffic jam at +2 with Gormley, Regan, Silvia, Paone, and Greg Willard for 2nd place and Scott Silvia will prevail in a card-off with his fine birdie on 1.

Another rookie, Jamie Gormley played well at +2, and as an alternate, was paired with Brian Murphy's even score to take 1st Team at +2.

We had another pile-up for 2nd Team with Silvia/Doonan, Regan and Dasaro, Mark Nolan/Szczurko, Raynard/Sullivan, and L. Silva and G. Wiilard all at +1. And the team of Chris Regan and Steve Dasaro will collect envelopes for prevailing in the tiebreaker.

There were eight birdie attempts that found the hole, and three will share the pot. Steve Danieli overcame a tough pin and landed a 3 on 3, Dan Svirsky birdied the 6th, and yet another rookie has made quite a splash this year and will add $40 to his winnings when Chris Regan had the only bird on the 9th, a hole that is usually humbled by SIGL sharpshooters. But so far this year, we're the gang that couldn't shoot straight. Birdies that did not live were
Shannon and Silvia on the 1st and McDermott, Lozzi, and G. Willard on 4.

The only notables that did not cash this week are Gregs Paone and Willard, both at +2, and Mr. Paone will be again be highpointer, this week with 15.

And although it is not part of league play, and unfortunately there is currently no back nine skins pool, congratulations to the ageless Bobby Bourne who notched his 5th career hole-in-one with an ace on the 16th! Fuzzy Zoeller once said, "Happiness is walking down the fairway with your putter," but even more so, happiness is walking up to the green without your putter. Way to go, Bob!

I am sure that many of you were not sleeping well wondering what happened last week to the CTP marker and tape. Well, it was eventually found by Easton CC personnel discarded in the woods. (It never ends.)

Easton CC has requested that when signing in, please inform the clerk whether you are an Easton member or not. With 60 players and with separate member/nonmember lists, this will speed up the
check in process. Also, the team pairings list, normally tacked to the post on the porch will be at the starters desk at the first tee.

Don't forget to deposit scorecards into the box in the pro shop. The pro shop closes around 6 PM. So if you finish after that, please e-mail me your results, with points earned (not plus/minus) and any birdies.

Sorry about all these complications, but they are beyond our control, or Easton CC's control, and hopefully some of these restrictions will be eased as the season progresses. Right now, we are forced to have a stripped down version of our usual Tuesday golf experience: no fraternizing before or after a round, no clubhouse, no food or drink, no CTP, no back nine skins pool, etc. Yeah, it's golf, but it ain't the same.

And finally, with restrictions on in-office medical exams, I had my first remote tele-health physical with my doctor. And it didn't go too bad. He recommended that I cut down on cigars but increase my Clorox consumption. And if you think a regular rectal exam is a pain, try shoving an I-Phone up your ass!

  See you next Tuesday.

WEEK 2 CTP:                      4TH HOLE

Well despite all the restrictions, it was still nice to get out and play. I was laying low for so long, I felt like Whitey Bulger hiding out in Santa Monica.

And we played like it, too with one of the worst scoring nights ever in the illustrious history of SIGL. With 29 scoring pairs (we're up to 58 players) we had but two teams who finished on the plus side of quota, and only ten individuals.

Maybe because he played golf in Connecticut recently, the clear standout on opening night was Greg Pinky Hi-Lo Paone who carded an outstanding +4. And he had a good partner in Mike Silva, who posted his own +4 in his first ever SIGL round. The duo easily takes 1st Team at +8. That means that the only other team in positive territory will also cash, with Lou Silva recording a solid +3, paired with rookie Chris Regan who limited the damage with a -1 for a +2 total.

Greg and Mike vied for 1st Individual with their +4s, and Greg will prevail in a card-off with his bogey on 1.

The 2nd is usually a hole where many golfers are hitting tight approach shots in. But yesterday, for the longest time, the card remained blank, as not one golfer had hit the green in regulation. Rick Walsh's 21 feet then held up until near the end when  Greg Willard took CTP honors with a winning 11'2".

There was paltry five birdies on the night and two that will split the skins pot of $120. Jim Shannon resumed his winning ways from last year with a nice birdie on the 7th hole and Mr. Paone added to his loot with a winner on 8. There was a triple play on the 6th with Mike Silva, John Hrenko, and Eric Aronson all recording deuces.
There will not be a back-nine skins pool for the foreseeable future.

The notables who did not cash this week were Tom Nolan, Terry Moore, Mark Spears, Peter Frasca, and Eric Aronson all at +2.

Housekeeping: We had three scorecards submitted (by SIGL veterans) that had no score totals and no quota point totals, which requires us to go through each hole of each golfer in order to calculate results. Starting next week, any card submitted with no quota point totals or quota point results will be discarded. Also, one group returned a card with no scores for the 9th hole, even though they went on and played the back. (In honor of Jerry Stiller: Serenity Now!) If you can't expend the most minimal of effort to properly record scores in a competition, then maybe you should save the effort of even teeing it up.

Thanks to all who paid promptly. For those who played and didn't pay, you are not eligible for prizes next week unless payment is in the box next week.

We say goodby and good luck to Paul Begley, retiring to Florida and to Steve Mattis who has moved to Plymouth. And our sincere condolences to Dan McGarry for his recent family loss.

And finally, this year we are certainly getting a shot of new blood as we welcome rookies Dylan Amaral, Paul Murphy, Jamie Gormley, Peter Murphy, Mike Sweet, Mike Silva, Chris Regan, Rob Williams, and Mike Wall into the SIGL fold.

  See you next Tuesday.
