Recap Year End

The day turned out to be perfect and so were the golf conditions, but it was still a surprise to see the amount of great golf that was played. For one, we had 24 birdies along with an eagle, and for the first time, we had four golfers who tallied over 30 quota points. Mike McNeice played his usual steady and outstanding golf to earn 32 points with 3 birdies, one of which was worth $128. Jim Lyons, playing in the B category, had 34 points for a +13 and T.J. James had a great day by shooting 72 with three birdies for a super 38 points. But we had one performance that was one for the record books: Frank LaRosa came out of the gate like gangbusters with a frontside score of 33 worth 28 points, on his way to a 68 and an unbelievable 46 points, resulting from four birdies and an eagle on 5.  Frank saved the second best round of his life for the year-end tourney, and cashed three skins birdies and eagle, second place team, high gross, and three closest to the pins and had to call a Brink's truck to safely get his winnings home. The remaining skins birdie went to Ed Finn.
Upon further review: I (LB) made a mistake on one of the player's quota requirements that affected 4th place. The team that was awarded 4th will get to keep the money (kinda like getting a Bank Error in Your Favor, Collect $100 card in Monopoly) but the actual winners of 4th place are Ed Finn, Joe Curtis, Steve DaSaro, and Paul Raynard (alt.) and $100 will be sent to them. Also, Jim Egan will receive a belated $25 for D player high net.
We had three golfers not show, even though they committed to playing, which cost you, the league, about $135, money that could have been put toward prize money. We wasted money for each of them for carts, lunch, bar drinks, and dinner. Each no-notice no-show will be billed $45, and if it is not paid, the golfer will not be in the league next year.
Hope everyone had fun this year, and John and I hope to see all of you back next year. We'll be sending out the 2013 letter before you know it. If you will not be playing next year, please let us know by March. Thanks.
                                                                                                                                                                   LB
I would like to add a thank you to everyone who contributed to the year end gift to myself and LB. The recaps were quite entertaining and all the credit goes to LB...I had to turn over the reigns due to my tumultuous year of being on the DL. Hopefully my troubles are behind me and I can get back to playing a full year.  April can't come soon enough for me and until then have a great winter...I'm ready for global warming.

Recap Week 20

Well another regular season is now in the books, and it was a whirlwind finish. Because of the gale force winds, we had a lot of no-shows and of those who played, not many scored well, understandably. One exception was Frank LaRosa, who mimicked Paul Raynard's feat last week and almost ran the table. At +4 and 19 points, Frank walked away with Team and Individual, along with closest on 8, and a $45 birdie on 3. Bino had a good night at +1 and rode the Team bus with Frank. And it was nice to see Mark Spears finish strong with a $45 bird on his final hole of  the  year. Birdies on 6 and 8 did not survive. And this humble hacker, thanks to the miracle of cortisone, was finally able to play a decent round again with a 39 and 16 points.

Okay, we're all set for the year end on 9/23. Playing teams have been posted. First tee time is 11:24, front  and back. Times might run early, so be there early. If you miss your tee time, and there is no other group with an open spot, then you are out.

Remaining league funds will cover golf carts, a box lunch and a drink, two bar drinks after golf, cheese and crackers, dinner, cash prizes, and merchandise prizes.

For newcomers: Sign in at desk and pay the  greens fee (do not pay for a cart).  Get box lunch and drink, and bar drink tickets in clubhouse. ONE SET PER CUSTOMER!!  Find playing partners. Be ready to tee off at your tee time or  when your group is called.  Groups will be instructed by the starter to tee off even if a player or players are not present on the tee.

   Good luck.

Recap Week 19

Week 19 was the late-season debut of "The Paul Raynard Show" starring Paul Raynard, who came pretty darn close to a clean sweep of the prize money. Raynman, who buys his underwear at K Mart, exploded for a +6, which was good for team and individual honors, along with closest to the pin on 6, and a $45 birdie on 4. And teammate Dwayne Snell rode his coattails to get on the money board for the first time. Not to appear too gluttonous, Paul left some scraps for the 99 percenters, so Mike McNeice stepped up and pocketed $45 with a nice bird on 2.

Again, most performances were sub-par (which actually means way above par) but T.J. had another good round and finished strong with birdies on 8 and 9 for 18 points. A noteworthy round was also turned in by Bob Frick, who started with a double bogey, and then proceeded to reel off 13 straight pars on his way to a 76. However, as soon as Frickie hiccupped, steady Eddie Finn swooped in to claim an 11-hole skin on 15 with a nifty up and down par that drained the morale of his victims, along with fattening his wallet. And Dan Szczurko had one of his better rounds of the year with 15 points and a birdie on 9.

It was nice to see that Bino was able to make it last night. The Post Office (new slogan: To get the mail out, we need a bailout) released him for the afternoon, although they made him wear an ankle bracelet and ordered him not to leave the state. And it was also nice to see that Steve Peterson is able to salvage a couple of late-season rounds.

Unclaimed Property Department:  Jim Egan and Rob McElman - pick up your envelopes.

One more night of the regular season and then the year-end tourney on Sunday, 9/23 at about 11:30.  Aside from those who have already informed us, if you will not be playing you must let us know now because we have to make a commitment to Easton C.C. If you don't let us know, and then don't show, we have to pay for you, and you will then be billed by the league. We won't be able to do a bonus week, so all remaining funds will go into the tourney, banquet, and prizes.

It looks like we'll have enough money left to do it like last year:  Remaining league funds will cover golf carts, box lunch (maybe), banquet, two drink tickets, and cash and merchandise prizes. Each golfer will pay his own greens fee at the desk. There will be two optional birdie pools:  $20 skins birdie pool, and a $5 pay-all birdie pool. Playing teams, quotas, and tee times will be announced next Tuesday.

Recap Week 18

The day's weather didn't start great or finish great, but in between we were blessed with some good golf weather. The season is fast dwindling, with only three nights left, which includes a bonus round on 9/18, making 21 weeks for the season. Again, not alot of good scoring, as we seem to be staggering to the finish line. Nice to see Alex Turchette and Rob McElman combine to secure team honors at +2, and a closing birdie on 9 helped Jim Egan snag the individual prize at +3. Dave Peters got it closest to a tough pin on 4 to add a few bucks to his yearly winnings.

And in the birdwatching department, a rare dimpled crossgreen curler was seen on 3 by Rick Walsh. It is the second time this year that Rick has cashed in on a $90 birdie. And aside from Canada geese and swans, the only other birds seen on the course last night were three common rollers on 9, although for a second Ed Finn thought he saw an eagle.

The bastards at the USPS (new slogan: What can red ink do for you?) did it again, and wouldn't let Bino off, not even for good behavior. Do they deliver mail or make license plates at that place? And this humble hacker is getting humbler every week  as a bad wrist is bringing my game down.  I usually handle injuries the way I handle car problems: I wait a month and hope the car fixes itself. I thought that's why they call it auto repair. Anyway, finally time to see a doctor.

Good to see Obo make an appearance last night. There's still time to get into his Survivor Pool before the footbal season starts. Just pick one winner each week straight up and you could be the big weiner at the end of the year. Just ask Bob Frick how easy it is. If you are interested, e-mail Bino (soon) and he will send you set-up instructions.

And finally, we have only a few weeks before the year-end tourney on 9/23, so we must know if you will not be playing. We have to give Easton a firm number
and we will be obligated to pay for that number.

Recap Week 17

Like a pitcher who gets a dead arm deep into the season, we seem to have alot of golfers with tired swings late in the year. Not alot of good scores, despite excellent conditions. One exception though was Mike Kelly who shot a 39 (15 strokes better than the week before) for a +5 and individual honors. His partner was no help though so team winners are Scott Silvia (+1)  and Frank LaRosa (even).  Jim Thompson continues to be on target on CTP holes like a pin-seeking missile and took the prize again at 9'.  Only four birdies for the entire night and they were all worth money: Paul Raynard on 3, Dave Naimo on 5, Joe Curtis, (who's trying to keep up with the Joneses, I mean the MacNeils) on 6, and  Frank, the mint, LaRosa on 8.  Funny how some nights we get 16 or 18 birdies and then another night only 2 or 4. We've checked with Easton C.C. and they have assured me that the hole is the same 4 1/4" every night, so it must be us. Birdies are like women: they come in spurts.

It was great to see Bino make a reappearance. After getting chiro-clearance for his neck, now the god-damn United States Postal Service (motto: We're so far in debt that we make Bernie Madoff look solvent) is giving Johnny a hard time about taking a few hours off for golf once a week. He has to practically get a special dispensation from the Pope (civil service status: permanent Pontiff I) just to take his own vacation time. Those bastards!

And finally, for all those bad swings, hit two buckets and e-mail me in the morning.
