As usual, SIGLers dominated last week's Lone Ranger tournament at Easton CC.  Of the 20 players who comprised the top 5 four-man teams, 13 were SIGLers. Congrats in particular to Bob Loring, Len Lima, and Rich White who were three quarters of the 1st place team.

Last week we indicated that there have been way too many instances where a hole-by-hole review of scores revealed an overreporting of actual points earned, and that from now on, if you report more points earned than you actually earned, that your card would be thrown out.

So for the group this week, all of whom reported solid plus numbers, where EVERY player on the card REPORTED points earned that were in excess of ACTUAL points earned, your card has been thrown out.

 WEEK 7 CTP     4TH HOLE

For the third time in six weeks, we have had players submitting cards that would have affected Results where they declare points greater than what they actually got. For instance, Player A totals his points and writes in 12 points earned. However, a hole-by-hole review of his card actually shows a total of 11 or even 10 points earned. All cards that are in the running are reviewed hole-by-hole for accuracy, and it is way too often that players are over-reporting their results. Funny how not once have we found an under-reporting by a player. From now on, if you misreport your results, your card will be thrown out.

Regarding the Back Nine skins pool, TJ has repeatedly advised that  when you are getting in the pool, you must write your name and time on the sheet provided. This is not a technicality; it helps insure that you got in the pool BEFORE you played the back nine, as opposed to jumping in the pool AFTER you got some birdies on the back. We have sent two mentions of this on the blog, one last week.

Starting next week (Week 7) if you do not write your name and time on the sheet, you will not be entered in the pool.

                                           REVISED WEEK 5 RESULTS

Unfortunately, it is necessary to revise Week 5 results due to the disqualification of two A players in the same playing group for playing All White tees, when this is clearly prohibited for A or B players. Ignorance of this rule is no excuse.

It is clear to every group in the league, with the apparent exception of this group, that the purpose of offering All White tees is to help the lesser skilled players to be more involved "in the game" and increasing their chances of winning cash prizes, etc. It obviously is not intended for a 14-quota golfer to have tap-in eagles.

The players' defense was that they just started All Whites on Week 5 (one of the players didn't start the season until Week 5) because they thought that any golfer could play any tee at any time. However, the rules on tees have been thoroughly stated in e-mails and blog entries from before the season even started, so there is no excuse for not being aware of them.

As the result of them playing the White tee on 9, one of these players eagled the hole with a 1-foot eagle tap in. This obviously would not have happened if he had played the correct Blue tee on 9.  This 8 point eagle, and 22 total points resulted in cash winnings of $100 from CTP, a skin, 1st Ind., and 2nd Team. This player's Week 5 card has been thrown out. The other A player improperly played the 10th hole from the Whites and got a birdie skin. This player's Week 5 card has also been thrown out.

After voiding the scores of the disqualified players, Week 5 Results have been refigured with the legitimate winners. Most of the legit winners had already won some money but have now been bumped up after the DQ scores were thrown out. The column that reads "due" is the additional amount owed to each golfer and there will be envelopes in the box next week.

The disqualified players will return their winnings by dropping off $100 (eagle man) and $50 from the B(ogus)9 skins win in envelopes and placed in the SIGL box at the bar next Tuesday. The two players have also been disqualified for Week 6.

Failure to promptly pay back the winnings or if there are any other infractions, the players will be expelled.

Week 5 brought a virtual duplicate of Week 4's strong play with 35 players exceeding quota, 10 right on their number, and 18 falling short. This week though we had a bigger handful of really outstanding numbers.

Proving that old men can still get it done, Johnny MacNeil finished an already good round with a super eagle on the 9th to finish with 22 points, a +9, and 1st Individual. Mighty Mike Silva, disappointed in his play to date, also exploded for an even par, 19 point performance, good for +8 and 2nd Individual. And Mike Wall keeps posting superlative numbers, which this week was even par, 20 points, and a 3rd Individual +6, which beat a great +6 by Paul Murphy.

Along with his talent, Mr. Wall has good fortune, as his partner John Tracy had his best night of the year with his +5, and their +11 will easily take 1st Team. Johnny Mac was well positioned to partake of a Team prize in addition to his 1st Individual, and his partner Len Lima hung in just enough for MacNeil/Lima to snag 2nd Team, in a tiebreaker over Paul Murphy's +6 and partner Mike Bradley's +2.

As noted, J. MacNeil eagled the 9th, and didn't even have to use the CTP tape measure because you can't get any closer to the pin than having your ball resting in the bottom of the cup. Nice work Johnny.

With all the good scoring, you'd think there would be more birdies, but there were a modest 12, in addition to the eagle. Andy Pryles started off on the right foot with a bird on 1, Big Bill Doonan had a winner on the 5th, his playing partner Steve Danieli followed suit on 6, and did we mention that John MacNeil had an eagle on 9?

In addition to the frontside winners, the following players had strong numbers but no reward, and all were at +4: Mathieson (9 straight pars), Haslam, Jurgy, TJ, Loring, and Lozzi.

Birdies that did not survive include: 2: (J. MacNeil, McNeice), 3 (M. Silva, Regan, Simmons), and the 8th (James, Wall). Not that it mattered, but Paul Murphy and Mr. Wall had birds on 9.

We had a 30-man $150 pot for the Backnine Skins pool and three winning putts. Joe Curtis, fresh off the Florida circuit, got on the board quickly with his sole birdie on 10, Bill Doonan added to his frontside skin with another on 15, and Steady Steve Lozzi rolled one in on 16. The 13th hole went down again with Mathieson, Svirsky, and Dugan. Finn and McGarry will cancel each other out on 14, and Nick Dejesus' 3 will cancel Mike Silva's on 18.

And finally, when entering the Back Nine Skins pool, please remember to write your name and the time on the sheet provided. Thanks.

   See you next Tuesday.
