Recap Week 1

Well, the 32nd season of the Stoughton Industrial Golf League, the greatest golf league at Easton C.C. that plays on Tuesdays, is off and running.

First, welcome aboard to all the newcomers; everybody seemed to pick up the routine pretty well. Thanks to all the prompt payers. For those who did not pay, payment is now past due and must be paid next week.

I got to the course and kowtow the porch (to kneel and touch the forehead to the ground in token of homage) and then looked over to the putting green to see Karas with a wool hat on. The wind was whipping and decided to make a club change by taking the driver out and replaced it with a bazooka gun knowing I would need it on 6 and 7. The league played like the Clint Eastwood movie the Good, Bad and the Ugly. I fell into the ugly group feeling the rust of a 6 month layoff came to the 8th tee needing a birdie...birdie finish to make my quota....as Maxwell Smart would say "I missed it by that much" limping in with a bogey..out finish. I guess there's only one way to go and that would be up.

Conditions were tough the first night and it was reflected in the scores. There was only a handful of  golfers who exceeded their quotas. Greg Willard is off to a great start with a winning +5.  Brother Blake made an impressive league debut with a +4 but with nothing to show for it.  John Tracy and newcomer Dave Naimo snagged some cash with the best team score of +3. (Also, if we ever have a prize for longest drive, it will go to Mr. Naimo, who lives in New Hampshire.) And even with a bad hand, Ed MacNeil managed to snuggle it close on 2 to get on the money board. We’re happy to report that this year, all weekly prize money will be increased from $10 to $20.
It looks like the birdie pool will have about $96 per week in it. (We will know the exact amount only after everyone pays). Perennial money machine Frank LaRosa is out of the gate with 2 paying birdies and another newcomer Dan Szczurko cashed with a bird on 3.  The 9th hole was covered.
And lastly, the league would like to extend its sympathy to Scott Bamford and John DiSilvestro for their recent losses.
