WEEK 19 CTP                                                          4TH

Well, we seem to have returned to earth from our impressive mid-season run of great golf, and at best had a mediocre night, with only five players exceeding +2. With the verti-cut aerated greens, it was just tough to get the ball to roll into the hole.

One guy who had no problem, though, was Paul McDermott, The Quiet Man (aka The Golf Whisperer) who speaks softly but Tuesday carried a big stick. Paul, by far, had his best night of the year and will be rewarded with various prizes worth a total of $112.

Paul's +7 easily led the way to a 1st Team win. And proving again that it is better to be lucky than good, Mayhem Mike Bradley will gladly partake of the 1st Team prize, despite not reaching quota (-1).

There was a traffic jam for 2nd Team with Brian Murphy/Mark Nolan, Chris Sullivan/Bill Doonan, and Ted Meyer/Dan Svirsky all at +4. And the winner is.....Sullivan and Doonan with a card-off win on the 1st hole.

Mr. McDermott's outstanding +7 will earn 1st Individual, and Brian Murphy also had his best night of the year with an impressive +5, good for 2nd Individual.

When you're hot, you're hot. So it is only fitting that Paul would easily take Closest to the Pin on 3 with an super-duper approach to 6 inches that just missed dropping in for the eagle.

With tough putting greens, there were a season low five birdies on the league front side, with three of them surviving. Skins winners were (you guessed it) Paul McDermott on 3, the always steady Bob Loring with a nice birdie on 5, and Dan Svirsky who chipped in on 7. (Right after Danno dropped one in from off the green, his buddy Big Bill Doonan also hit the flag with his chip, but Dan had already used up all the luck on the hole, and Bill's would not fall.) The 4th hole was covered by P. McDermott and Bobby Bourne.

The only other notables, who did not win money, were Eric Aronson at +4 and John Tracy at +3. Highpointers were Paul McDermott and Bob Bourne with 16.

     No back-nine birdies survived with 11 (Walsh/James), 12 (E. MacNeil/Shannon), and 14 (J. MacNeil/Loring) all getting smashed. There will be a $100 carryover for next week.

And finally, the year-end tourney will be held on Sunday, September 30th, with an 8:00 AM shotgun start. Next week, there will be a sheet on the desk. You must indicate on this sheet whether you are playing or not. If you leave it blank, then that will be converted to "Not Playing" and teams will be drawn without you, and will not be redrawn.

   See you next Tuesday.
