Recap

Maybe it's the dog days of summer or something, but we sure have been playing like hounds the last couple of weeks, with only a handful of golfers hitting their quota, and only two birdies. For the last two weeks, we've played over 360 holes of golf and have a mere 5 birdies to show for it, and 4 of those were on Holes 8 and 9. (We're playing worse than the South Korean badminton team, and we're trying!)

Player of the week goes to Joe Curtis who had an impressive +4 to win individual and team honors. Scott Silvia, who took advantage of being an alternate, came in at +2 to join Joe on the winning team. Don Dillon also had a good night at +2 and snagged closest to the pin on 6 with 2'10". Little did Don know when he was lining up his putt, that it would be worth $90, but it did not drop (Don, please don't tell us that you left it short), so there were no birdies that lived, and the money carries over to next week. The only birds were Mr. Curtis and Rick Walsh on Hole 8.

Congratulations to Jim Lyons who won the Easton C.C. Division B match play tourney defeating fellow SIGLer T.J. James. Tommy had his work cut out for him by giving Jim 5 strokes, but it was a fight to the finish, and square after 17. They both parred 18, but Jim was getting a stroke, and that made the difference. Great job by both youse guys. Now it's on to the club championship!

Hard to believe that there are only 6 regular nights left this season, but we'll have a little extra money so we'll play a bonus week, which will be 9/18, and the year-end tourney will be that Sunday, 9/23. There's still plenty of time, but if anyone knows that they will not be playing, please let us know.

Heard around the 19th Hole: 1) For you newcomers, and some of you oldcomers, there is apparently some confusion about the use of alternates. Alternates are names drawn randomly from the league roster to be used when other members do not show up. The alternate's score is used for his own original team and then also used to form a team where an alternate is needed. If you are an alternate, and are used, then you are competing on two teams that night. 2) "Why didn't my quota go down after I had such a bad round last week?" As we have explained numerous times, your quota is based on the average of your BEST SCORES NOT ALL YOUR SCORES. It is the same system used to calculate a USGA handicap. A golfer's quota and handicap are based on what you are reasonably CAPABLE of shooting; it is not a straight average of every round you play. Your bad rounds are not factored into the equation.

Random thoughts: Andrea is a great bartender and is a real cutie, but Obo, we  really miss you on Tuesday nights. Come around once in a while and throw some peanuts at us or something. Incoming!

And finally, we've had our first birdie pool carryover of the year, so next week it will be worth $180. When you're lining up that birdie putt, make sure you get it to the hole because we don't pay out for nice lag putts.
