Recap Week 12

Match 1 had Mike Nolan playing solo against Aronson and Mark Nolan. Mike getting extra shots started strong winning the 1st two holes, but things went quickly downhill from there as the steady play of Aronson dashed the hopes of Mike moving on to the next round.

Match 2 had Frank Stefanick also playing solo against Fitzpatrick and Ritchie. Stefanick not having his A game managed to hang in there and force extra holes where took the 10th hole to move on to take on the father and son team D & G Willard.

Match 3 had Larosa and Bradley against Lyons and Bino. Bradley jumps out of the gate with a par on 1 and 2 taking both holes, leaving Lyons and Bino in a early hole, but the match changed direction and was even going to the 7th, again Bradley comes through with a par and Larosa takes matters into his own hands and puts the dagger in my hopes of becoming a repeat champion, sinking a match ending birdie putt on 8.

Match 4 had Poverman and Thompson against Dillon and Jaffe. The fat lady was singing on the first hole in this match as Dillon and Jaffe turned out the lights by winning the 1st 4 holes.

Match 5 had the father and son team of Dana & Greg Willard going against Guyder & Reardon. This match went back and forth until the 8th when G Willard hits his drive to the right of the green and precedes to give his opponents hope by duffing his chip shot to the edge of the green. The hope was short lived as he sinks his putt for birdie to end the match.

Match 6 had McDermott and Kelly against Mercardo and Raynard. Mercardo and Raynard took advantage of their stoke holes by winning them all. McDermott had no answer for Mercardo's steady play.

Match 7 had Meyer and Tracy against Silvia and Cloutier. This match had Silvia and Cloutier fighting an uphill battle with Meyer getting 5 shots proved to be too much, when with Cloutier in with a par on 7, Meyer steps up to bogey net par to halve the hole. Needing birdies on the 8, both boogied and with a Tracy par the matched ended with Silvia and Cloutier mumbling I could have been a contender.

Match 8 had Karas and McNeice against Peters playing solo, James out with a water slide mishap. Peters has championship experience going the finals last year was not intimidated by playing by himself, enjoyed and took advantage of the 2 stroke rule. McNeice shot lights out, tied the match up with a birdie on 9 for his second of the day. The strokes were too much to overcome as Peters takes care of business on 10 and has McNeice and Karas looking at each other saying what happened.

Match 9 had Barry and Murphy against Finn and Walsh. Finn found his swing and that meant trouble for Barry and Murphy (two time Judge Smails Cup winners). Finn puts his 3rd shot on 2 3 feet from the cup and sinks the birdie putt, the first of 3 for the round. Barry with his solid play tried to hang in there, but Walsh was no slouch either, threw in a birdie on 8 to move this tough to beat swashbuckling duo into the next round licking their chops.

The final match had McKenna and E MacNeil against J MacNeil and Curtis. John MacNeil was on fire and needed to be against the machine aka Rich McKenna. MacNeil birdies 2 and 3, but brother Ed was keeping his team in it by taking advantage of his strokes. Curtis wins 5 with a par net bird. McKenna birdies 8 to even the match and looking to finish the soft spoken John MacNeil...yah right. The 9th was reachable in 2 for the power hitting McKenna, but J.MacNeil having his best round of the year...(21points) turned the tables and sunk his 3rd birdie putt of the day ending the hopes of McKenna and E. MacNeil holding the coveted Cup.

One note is I know we are playing in a match, but please play ready golf. The play was a bit slow, not saying rush just keeps things moving.
