WEEK 9 CTP       4TH HOLE

Wet and soggy conditions apparently dampened scores Tuesday as only five out of 50+ players recorded +3 or better.

But that didn't stop rookie SIGLer and rookie Easton CC member Mike Sweet from having by far his best night of the year by recording a 38 (career best?) more than doubling his quota with 17 points, good for a super +9 and 1st Individual. There were not alot of other standouts but Paul Raynard continues his resurgence with an outstanding +4 to take 2nd Individual.

With a +9, Mike was in more than good position to cash in on 1st Team honors, too but he happened to draw a partner who had his first bad round of the year, so had to settle for a sweet and sour 2nd Team finish, with Sweet/Wall beating out the team of McDermott/Williams in a card-off at +4.

So that left the door open for the top Team prize, and in walked John Tracy (+3) with his best night and a solid +2 from Dan Svirsky to take 1st Team at +5.

We have resumed Closest to Pin, and sharpshooter Greg Willard fashioned one in nice and tight on the 2nd hole to take the first CTP prize of the year.

With the course playing long and putts not reaching the hole on soft greens, there were only eight birdie bids that found the (shallow) bottom of the cup, with half of those paying cash money. Mr. Willard converted his short putt on 2, putting guru Bob Bourne drained his on the 4th, John Tracy earned four points on 7, and Dan Szczurko finished strong with a bird on the 9th hole. Birdies on 3 (Lozzi, Musgrove) and 6 (Sweet, White) did not survive.

Notables who did not cash is a small list, with only Andy Pryles at +3 not getting an envelope, although 12 players recorded solid +2s. Highpointer for the day was Mike Sweet with 17.

Housekeeping: 1) We will have the kinks worked out for the Back Nine birdie pool next week, with envelopes available to deposit your 5 bucks, and be sure to write your name on the list.      2) There was a mix up with the winning envelopes from last week, but they have been located so in addition to this week's winners there are envelopes for McDermott, Heffernan, Musgrove, Shannon, Wall, and Silvia. 3) There are a couple of groups who, on a regular basis, are correctly reporting their quota points earned but overreport their plus/minus number. (For example, they report that they were +3 when they were actually +2.) Your quota requirement is liable to change week to week, so you must use that week's quota requirement instead of an outdated number. If you don't know your current quota, don't guess; just report your total points.

And finally, as usual SIGL players did themselves proud in an Easton CC tournament last weekend with Lou Silva, Len Lima, and Dan Sirsky on T1st teams, and Ed Finn, Bob Bourne, and this humble hacker taking a nice chunk of the lucrative skins pool. Good job men.

    See you next Tuesday.

                                HOW SWEET IT IS!
