Well, it was Tuesday so that means weather was an issue again. It wasn't perfect but we got through the round, and with pretty good attendance to boot.

Unlike previous weeks when scores were pretty much uniformly good or bad, this week scores were all over the lot, with many really good and many really bad.

On the good side, we had an impressive 19 players who were +2 or better. The leader of the plus pack this week was steady Bob Loring who had a breakout performance with 17 points, good for a +7, 1st Individual, and a crisp 77. Right behind him, Mike Nolan had maybe his career SIGL round with an outstanding +6 to take 2nd Individual.

Mr. Loring (+7) had a steady partner in Bill Doonan (E) and their + 7 would tie the powerful team of Rich White (+4) and Ed Finn (+3) at +7. The White/Finn duo takes 1st Team honors with a card-off win on Hole 5.  And Big Ed turned in his own tight 77.

Steve Lozzi set the standard early for Closest to Pin on 8 at 12'0", but rookie Ned Babyak came along soon thereafter with a neat 10'4", which stood up for the rest of the day, to cash for the second week in a row. (Ned, you have a cash envelope in the cigar box from a couple of weeks ago, and that goes for you too Bradley.) Mystery golfer Mike Hunt again recorded his standard 69 feet on the CTP marker, but Mike Hunt should not hold out much hope of ever winning Closest because Mike Hunt is not an SIGL member and 69 feet very rarely wins anyway.

For all the good scores, surprisingly there were only nine frontside birdies, with three paying off. The always steady Mike McNeice will be rewarded for his winning bird on 4, while Mike Nolan will collect for his 3 on 8, and Paul Begley gets on the money board with a nice birdie on the 9th. Birdies on 2 (J. MacNeil, White), 3 (E. MacNeil, Svirsky), and 6 (Thompson, Loring) are cancelled out.

We had plenty of good performances that were not rewarded with cash prizes. There were many at +2, and Scott Silvia with a fine +3, Paul McDermott, John Fay, and Rick Keating all at +4, and hard-luck Terry Thompson at +5. High pointer was Bob Loring with 17.

There was limited participation in the Back Nine skins pool, and there were only five birdie putts sunk. Ed Finn stuck one tight on 12 for a tap in, Steve Lozzi dueced the tough 16th, and Dan Svirsky birdied the now more accommodative 18th hole to divvy up the pot. Mr. Lozzi and Mr. Finn covered each other on 13.

We have hit the quarter pole of the season and we have dispensed $1,722 in cash prizes, spread out over 31 players. Top winners, and those that have hit the $100 mark are: Finn ($168), Danieli ($131), Tracy ($125), White ($106), McNeice ($101), and Shannon ($100).

Housekeeping: 1) There will be no golf on Tuesday, July 2nd. 2) Please put last names on the scorecard. We have 56 players and many with the same first names. Submitting cards with first names only or initials only makes it needlessly difficult for us to figure out whose card we are looking at.

And finally, SIGLers continue to shine in Easton CC tournaments. In last week's Lone Ranger tourney, of the four 4-man teams that finished in the money (1st - T3rd) 10 of those 16 players were proud members of SIGL: White, McDermott, James (2nd), and Russell, Doonan, Hrenko (T3rd), and McNeice, Paone, Lozzi, and Barry (T3rd). Nice work men.

  See you next Tuesday.

                       PICKING AN SIGLer IS
                       ALWAYS A GOOD BET
