When did we get so good? SIGLers continued their superb mid-season run with another outstanding night of above average scoring.

The ridiculously hot Bob Bourne continued on his record-setting run on Tuesday. As you may recall, the 75-yr old (that's three quarters of a century for those of you scoring at home) shot a 74 last week. And amazingly, five days later, he did it again, this time in a tournament! And just to put a cherry on top of his memorable week, he shot a 37 in league play on Tuesday. Wow.

Bob's +6 led the way to a 1st Team win along with a solid contribution from partner John MacNeil at +2.

We again had a tie for 2nd Team, and this week Scott Silvia (alt) at +4 and Saul Payne's +3 bested Alex Turchette (+4) and Pat Heffernan (+3) with Scott's bogey on the first hole, getting Scotty on to the money board for the first time. (We're still working on the remaining five players who have been shut out thus far.)

Playing partners Jim Lyons and Mr. Bourne battled it out for 1st Individual at +6, with Jim's par on 1 making the difference. JL also had his own superb 37 on the front.

For the second week in a row, Terry Thompson will take Closest to Pin with a tee shot to 20'8" on the 6th hole, again winning by less than a foot, this time over a fine approach by John Hrenko.

There were only seven frontside birdies, and two will pay cash. Nice to see Steve DaSaro with a decent payday with his bird on 4 and soon-to-join-the Champions Tour Bob Bourne will split the pot with his 3 on the 5th. Birdies on 6 (Bourne, Russell) and 8 ( Loring, Payne, Lyons) will not pay.

As noted, we had plenty of outstanding scores, and notables who  did not cash are Gary Russell and Terry Moore at +5, Ed Finn, Alex Turchette, and Bob Jones with +4s, and Joe Curtis, Jay Chapman, and Pat Heffernan at +3. Hard luck players of the week were Bob Loring and Gary Russell who each had 2 birds but no dough.

Highpointer for the night was Bob Bourne with 19.

The back nine produced nine birdies for those in the pool and three will survive. Steve Lozzi continues his superlative play with winning birds on 10 and 13, and the always steady Mike McNeice will be rewarded for his birdie on the tough 15th hole. The 11th hole (James, J. MacNeil, Russell), and 14th (Loring, McDermott, Frasca) were smashed.

And finally, a hardy round of applause to the SIGL troopers who dominated the lucrative Coffee Group Tournament last weekend. Of nine paying spots in the tourney, SIGLers took seven! And took three of six Closest to Pin prizes.

Steve Lozzi and Jim Lyons shared 1st place in the A division, while SIGL ran the table in the B bracket with TJ James, Bob Bourne, and Mike Leonard coming in 1, 2, 3. And in the C class, Saul Payne and Steve Danieli split 2nd place. CTP honors were earned by Lyons, Bourne, and tourney organizer Gary Russell.
All told these fine SIGL ambassadors earned a collective total of $1,790 for their two-day effort. Now that's bringin' home the bacon!

  See you next Tuesday.
