Recap Week 20

Well, another season is in the books, and we finished on a strong note. That's three weeks in row with outstanding scores in general turned in; peaking at just the right time for the year-end tourney.

Finishing particularly strong as Team were Mr. Steady Bob Loring and Ryan Burke, both at +5, and Eric Armbruster will take Individual, also at +5. Ryan will also collect for a nifty approach on 8 to within 4" to snag Closest to the Pin cash.

Other notables include Johnny MacNeil (sorry John, you lost the tie-breaker for Individual, which was that you have already won $214) at +5, and Paul Begley, Saul Payne, Alex Turchette, Dan Szczurko, Mike Bradley, and Bob Frick all at +3. Bob paid us a visit here at Easton, and coolly shot a smooth 73. Highpointer for the night was Todd Texeira at 19 points, who is back in stride after being sidelined with a shoulder problem for a few weeks.

There were a healthy 13 birdies for the night, but only two will be rewarded with hard cash: Amazingly, the 2nd hole held up for Frickie, and Paul Raynard will take half the pool for his 2 on the 4th hole. The 6th hole was very inviting last night as there were 4 birds to the middle pin. And the usual suspects 8 and 9 were also covered.

And this from the Believe It or Not Dept.: Ray Larrabee put his tee shot on 6 to within 18 inches but not to be undone, playing partner Mike Kelly promptly dropped one in to 6 inches. Other playing partner Paul McDermott, having trouble on the hole, then rattled the flagstick with his third shot, with the ball dipping into the hole, and coming to rest on the lip. And Ray has even provided cell phone photographic evidence of the balls nestled around the hole, just in case you think he's telling a fish story.

Ed Finn was at the boiling point playing the 9th hole when playing partner Rick Walsh had to play a ball from the driving range, and some a-hole continued to hit shots from the range right at Ed and Rick. Later, Mayhem Mike Bradley suggested that Ed should have marched down the range and killed the culprit, which I think Ed would have easily done if it weren't for Easton C.C.'s strict prohibition on lethal beatings or outside alcohol on course property.

For the year, we paid out $3,958 in cash prizes, and for the first time ever, there was a tie for regular season money leader. Congrats to Easy Ed Finn and rookie Greg Paone who each collected $291. The top five is rounded out with Frank LaRosa ($229), John MacNeil ($214), and Sean Costello at $168. (Okay, Teddy since you were only $2 out of fifth place, I'll mention your name, too.)

For the rest of us, not to worry, because there promises to be a very generous reserve left for year-end tourney prize money and free raffle prizes. The tourney is Sunday, Sept. 28thand will be an 8:00 AM shotgun followed by a dinner. Thanks to those who have let us know that they can't play, and if there any more who can't play, we must know asap.

Playing teams and quotas will be posted here by next week. There will be two optional birdies pools; a $20 skins pool and a $5 pay all birdies pool. Sign up that day with poolmaster Frank LaRosa.

And finally, also from the Believe It or Not Dept., the We're In Trouble With Easton Again Dept., and the What the $%^&** Were You Thinking? Dept., an SIGLer actually played his second shot on the 8th hole from the 7th green, and according to (angry) Easton staff and management, took a deep and long divot out of the green, which will have to be repaired. There wasn't one person in the group who had the sense to tell him to take a drop off the green? As the late great Kasey Kasem used to say, "Ponderous, man, ponderous."  For the record, for the year-end tournament, Easton has informed us that golf carts will not be allowed on the greens.
