Recap Week 19

The good news is that we are just hitting our stride; the bad news is that there is only one week left in the season. What took us so long? It was another week of collective outstanding play with many players again well above quota, and there were 15 birdies and an eagle.

Every week there is one SIGLer who is out-of-the-box good, and this week that honor goes to Easton C.C. neighbor Ray Larrabee who broke out with 2 birdies, 19 points, and a +7, to easily take Individual. And for the first time all year, and probably in a long while, the two highest-pointers were teamed up together, as Ed Finn also posted 19 points with an eagle and bird, contributing a +4 toward the Team win at +11.

With a tricky front pin on 6, Greg Willard plopped it to within 4'9" to take Closest to the Pin. Unfortunately, Greg was unable to close the deal with a birdie putt, (but I am not shedding TOO many tears.)

For the second week in row, the ball was finding the hole, or the hole got in the way of the ball, even with the still sandy and rough greens. As noted we had 15 birdies and an eagle, with the 1st hole the only one not birdied. Ed Finn got his eagle on 2 just the way the pros do it: great drive, great approach from 220 yards, and a cool draining of a curling 18-footer. Frank LaRosa still has some life in his game despite a season of physical ailments and will collect for a nice birdie on 5. This humble hacker (LB) rolled one in from off the green on 6 to cash, (Geez, Greg, I'm really sorry you missed that putt), and John Fay was proud as punch with his birdie on 7.

Hard-luck player of the week goes to Dawn Weber who had 2 birds, 16 points, and a +5, but unfortunately, no cabbage to show for it. Dawn's life partner, but more importantly, golf partner Dave Weber was looking forward to a stellar round after taking a lesson with ace Easton pro Rob Citrano. However, with a few too many swing thoughts swimming in his head, had a sub-par outing. Maybe Rob channeled the lesson THROUGH Dave to Dawn, which even Butch Harmon would be impressed with.

Others earning an honorable mention are Alex Turchette (in case you don't know Alex, he's the token sane person in the MacNeil foursome), steady Steve Lozzi, and Bino Bino Carrabino all at +3.

Hard to believe that we have only one week left in the regular season. Where did the year go? The year-end tourney will be on Sunday, Sept. 28th, and will be an 8:00 AM shotgun start, and there promises to be a generous amount of prize money on the line. We have to give Easton a firm number soon on golfers and diners, so if you cannot or will not be playing, you must let us know as soon as possible. Don't waste league (that means fellow golfers') money by being a surprise no-show. Not cool.

     See you next Tuesday
