Recap Week 9

Another great night at beautiful Easton C.C. and conditions seem to get better each week; although I'm gonna have to see a chiropractor if I drive on these cart paths much longer.

Turnout was good and scores were all over the lot, but many had their best night of the year. Star of the day was Todd Texeira who seems to get better very week; this time collecting 22 points, with four birdies, good for a +7 and Individual honors. We would have to get our microfiche machine fixed and check league archives, but we're reasonably sure that the record is 23 points, held by former SIGL great Rich McKenna and current SIGL equipment manager Frank LaRosa. Todd had no help from his partner and so the Team prize will go to Scott Silvia, who shook off a season-long slump to register a +4 and mate Dave Naimo, also at an impressive +4.

Other notable rounds were turned in by Terry Moore (+5), John Fay (+4), Mike Kelly (+3), Jay Chapman (+3) and Rick Walsh at +3, who makes steady improvement each week.

Jared Cacciapaglia continues his winning ways, and this week will cash for Closest to Pin on the tough 6th hole.

There were a respectable 11 birdies for the night, and for the first time in a while, five of them lived: Despite having his worst night of the year, Greg Paone continues to find a way to collect, with a birdie right out of the gate. Surprisingly 2 lived for Ryan Burke, Todd Texeira collects on two of his four birds (3 and 4) and Mike Kelly had a nice one on 6 to get on the money board. And with a strong wind at our backs, there were six birdies between 8 and 9. (The wind also helped on 18 where Ed Finn's drive rode the jetstream to within 90 yards of the front pin.)

A tip of the cap goes out to SIGLers Todd T. and to Bobby Frick for advancing past the first round of the Easton C.C. match play championship. Fellow SIGLer Saul Payne had the misfortune of being paired against Todd on his stellar night, and Saul was heard to mutter something that sounded like "Oy vey" as he limped home. Also, an honorable mention to Bob Loring who was closed out in extra innings of an exciting match. Good luck to all who have yet to play their matches.

A reminder that we are almost at the halfway point of the year, and that 2nd half payments are due on Week 11. You're on notice. (Of course, the players who are the most difficult to collect from are the same ones who never read this website, so we're just blowing into the wind.)

And finally, some of you may have seen and heard Easy Ed MacNeil cutting across fairways mid-round on his way to the parking lot, and singing "All Night Long" at the top of his lungs. Eddie couldn't contain his excitement knowing that he was on his way to see new singing sensation Lionel Richie at the Comcast Center. Personally I wouldn't interrupt a round of Putt-Putt to go to that concert, but, hey, if I ever get word that Bobby Goldsboro is coming to town ......!

     See you next Tuesday.
