Recap Week 8

For the weeks we've had brutal weather, we get almost perfect attendance, and now that we've had great nights to play, nobody shows up. Between bad backs and other assorted injuries, illnesses, work conflicts, and unavoidable meetings with probation officers, for the second week in a row, we've had more no shows than city workers on a Monday morning.

And based on our performances, the rest of us should have stayed home, too. For the night, we had only 7 golfers exceed quota, and the typical score was deeply in the red. Maybe great weather and great course conditions don't suit our games. One exception was Dana Willard who had his best night of the year with a +6 and will be duly rewarded with the Individual prize. However, his partner leaked oil all night so they were not close for Team honors. That distinction goes to Paul Raynard who had a season-high 10 points, good for +3 and steady Bill Pope who chipped in with a +1.

Dan Szczurko turned in a very impressive +4 which didn't earn him any dough, but his stylish shot into a tough pin on 4 will earn him Closest to the Pin at 21' 6"

There were only nine birdies on the night, and for the fourth week in a row, we have had two survive, earning $54 each. Standout rookie Greg Paone continues to roll in the birdies, and has a knack for winning skins, and will do so again with one on the 2nd hole. And John MacNeil looks determined to vie all year for the money lead with a nice one on 6, where there was a tricky front pin.

Rookie Todd Texeira continues to show off and again was high-pointer for the night, this time with 17 points, and did so without a birdie. (That comes out to eight pars and a bogey, good for a 37.)

We usually like to mention Other Notables, but this week, we couldn't find any. And for the first time all year, both Bino and myself played some extra holes, and so by the time we repaired to the 19th Hole, the joint was empty, except for a bewildered Andrea. So I guess all the whacky hijinks and great golf moments that inevitably occurred last night will forever go unchronicled.

And finally, it is with deep sadness that we inform you of the recent death of the beloved wife of SIGLer Terry Moore, after a lengthy illness. Please keep Terry and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

   See you next Tuesday.
