Recap Week 6

It was another dank and dour night at Easton C.C., but attendance was good considering the foul weather. I hope everyone enjoyed playing the back nine, and we would do it more often, but generally course scheduling doesn't allow it.

Nice to see Chris Sullivan break out with a +4 night to snag individual honors. Tommy James had it going, shooting a 37/75 which earned him team honors along with a steady Mike Kelly. (With both of them living on the 18th green, they practice their putting and chipping all night long. No fair.) It appears Rick Walsh probably won closest to the pin on 14 at 19'5". However, the marker was not turned in by the last group, so as they say at the racetrack, we will have a steward's inquiry before results are official.

Paul McDermott continued his birdie ways with one on 10. Frank LaRosa (Lyme disease and all) increased his money lead with a bird on 11. Ed MacNeil cashed on 13. Father Dana continues the Willard family tradition of winning prize money with a bird on 15,and Dan Szczurko continues to hole birdie putts, this one on 16. All birdies lived.

There will be no Judge Smails Cup match play tourney this year. With the  amount of golfers in the league, the scheduling of matches, etc. and the amount of weeks it  would take to complete the tourney, it is too disruptive of regular league play. Money normally allocated for the tourney is being used for larger weekly payouts and more cash for the year-end tourney.

Handicapping 101: For the golfers who continually inquire (translation: bitch) about their quotas, here is how it works: Your quota is determined by the average of your BEST scores. Example: After 6 weeks, the average of your best 3 scores is your quota. After 14 weeks, it is the average of your best 7 scores, etc. It is the same method used in determining a USGA handicap: the top 50% of your scores determine your handicap, not all your scores. Therefore, when  you turn in a lousy score, your quota will not necessarily go down the next week because that isn't one of your better scores.

And finally, the steak dinner after golf has been moved by Mark Lombardi to June 19th. We didn't get a very big response on the sign-up sheet, so the price has been reduced to $14.95. Now how can you beat that ?!!
