Well okay, it was a Tuesday and the course was actually open for play, so we had that going for us (which was nice) but man it was hot. Despite the swelter, attendance was strong, although many groups stopped after nine. (Although rumor has that two groups played 27.)

Whether it was the weather or not, but after a couple of weeks of super scoring, the group reverted to the mean (the Law of Averages always wins out in the end) with average scoring, and a very large number of competitors hitting their quota right on the number.

Last year's runaway best scorer, Bobby Bourne, has been battling
injuries all year, so it was nice to see the ace find his old form with a super two-birdie 35, good for 21 points and a winning +9.

Jim Shannon's game is starting to come around as the ad man posted a season best 40 for a healthy +6, and good for 2nd Individual.

It was nice to see Mike Bradley back after an extended absence with a bad back, and he wasted no time getting back in the money. Mayhem contributed a fine +3, thanks to a bird on 9 which complemented Mr. Shannon's +6 to take 1st Team at +9.

  B. Bourne happened to get paired with his playing partner and cart mate, so he was able to witness first hand as Peter Frasca did nothing to contribute to the cause with a -2. But Bob's super +9 was good enough to garner 2nd Team honors at +7, and so Bob will proudly and Peter will humbly accept cash envelopes.

On the Closest to Pin 4th Hole, Big Bill Doonan went out early and posted an impressive 6'10" (no, he was not writing down his height) and for the rest of the day, there were no contenders who were able to best that fine mark. And, for the ninth straight week this year, Bill won Tallest Golfer honors.

After the first, every hole on the front was birdied, but only two were exclusives. Dan Svirsky will be rewarded for the sole bird on 2, and Bill Doonan will split the skins pot with his playing partner Dan with his birdie conversion on the 4th. Uncompensated birdies were had on 3 (Bourne, Finn), 5 (Bourne, Curtis, Mark Nolan), 6 (Russell, Hrenko), 7 (Fay, G. Willard), 8 (Aronson, Musgrove, Simmons), and 9 (Bradley, Moore).

As noted, collectively scores generally hovered right on quota or one point off quota in each direction. However, in addition to the cash winners, there was a handful of superb performances that will not be rewarded with envelopes: The hard-luck Terry Moore again had a great night at +5, and Hrenko, Humphrey, Turchette, Russell, and Nolan (Mark) all had superb +4s, but to no avail.

Bob Bourne was easily highpointer with 21, the fourth time in four weeks that we have had a 20+ point performance from one of our young .... I mean old guns. And speaking of age, a special tip of the cap to Mr. Bourne who very recently has TWICE shot below his age with scores of 74. Good stuff Robert.

With so many golfers playing only nine holes, we had a surprising 26 entries in the back nine skins pool, with eight birdies sunk on three holes. The 11th was covered (Lozzi, E. MacNeil, Shannon) as was the 13th (McNeice, Svirsky, E. MacNeil, Murphy). And that leaves only one standing ... and the winner is the hot Steve Lozzi who will collect $130. (And for the player who birdied the 14th hole, a $5 investment would have returned $65 if you had only jumped into the pool.)

  See you next Tuesday.

COME ON, JUST JUMP IN ALREADY!
