Well, the long winter will soon be over, and hopefully we have a great 2018 ahead of us. Opening Day will be May 1, May Day.

As usual, we will have a 20-week season, with a year-end tournament in late September or early October, After the Easton CC tourney committee publishes its 2018 schedule, we will firm up a date.

The weekly greens fees this year will be $26 ($1 more than last year) so annual SIGL dues will be $650, which includes $520 in greens fees ($26 x 20 weeks), and $130 for weekly prizes and skins pool, year-end tourney prize money, banquet, and a possible subsidy toward the cost of the year-end tourney. We will also have an optional $5 back nine skins pool, which will be pay as you go. Easton CC members will pay $130.

First half payment of $325 is due on opening day. Please make sure that you bring payment on that day. For whatever reason, 2017 was the most difficult year ever in collecting dues, so let's not have a repeat in 2018.

As you remember, 2017 was a disastrous year weather-wise, and for the first time, we were not able to get in a full season. But the flip side of that is that it allowed us to have the biggest and best year-end tourney ever. In addition to the cost of the tourney being paid for with remaining league funds, cash prizes totalling $5,210 were doled out, with every SIGLer who played getting something back. Nonetheless, here's hoping that we get 20 beautiful Tuesdays in a row this year.

If you will not be returning this year, please let us know as soon as possible. There are a limited amount of spots in the league. So if you are dropping out, but don't let us know, you are needlessly taking a spot away from a newcomer who wants to join. Regarding newcomers, friends of current SIGLers have priority over "off the street" schmucks, but you must let us know ahead of time. (Please provide name, rank, and serial number. I mean name, e-mail, and handicap.)

And we were shocked to learn this winter that our good buddy and longtime SIGL co-commisioner Bino Carrabino has up and moved to Myrtle Beach. John and Donna have already bought a brand-new home and John has already found himself some golfing neighbors, and he is hitting the links. Bino, in addition to being a great friend, thanks for all your help with the league through the years. Stay in touch.

We are sorry to learn that witty Irishman (aren't they all?) Martin Enright will be defecting to Segragansett Country Club this spring. Martin, if you ever decide to leave Seggy, or more likely, get expelled, always remember that you are more than welcome to come crawling back on your hands and knees to SIGL/Easton CC.

And welcome aboard to newcomer Mike Leonard. If you are ever on  American Airlines and you hear the engines purring like a kitten, remember that it is Mike and fellow Easton CCer Paul Hebert who keep those big birds in fine fettle for your flight.

Okay, that's about it. If you have any questions or whatever, feel free to get in touch. Otherwise, see you in May.

HEY PAUL, WHERE'S THIS EXTRA BOLT GO?

AH, I DUNNO, MIKE. DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT.
