Coming down the home stretch, with only three league nights left, we seem to have hit the doldrums collectively, but it hasn't seemed to affect a handful of intrepid SIGLers who had some very good nights.

After watching the MacNeil boys win a bushel of dough all year, Alex Turchette decided to get into the act, and his outstanding  +4 will lead him to the Team win, along with partner Bino, who kicked in with his own fine +3 for a +7. John's par on the first hole made the difference in a card-off win. Settling for 2nd Team, also at +7 are Bill Doonan (+6) and alternate partner Steve DaSaro. (It pays to be an alternate.) Nice to see good guy Steve make the money list for the first time.

And after suffering through some midseason issues, it was Bill Doonan's night, so Stretch will take 1st Individual honors with his superb +6. And an Alaskan cruise seems to have been just what the dentist, I mean doctor, ordered for Saul Payne's golf game, as he returned with a very fine +5 to take 2nd Individual over Mark Nolan and Eric Aronson in a card-off win on 5 with a bird.

Martin Enright just keeps marching along each week, this time turning in another +4, and settling CTP matters early with a super approach on 8 to 2'8" that easily held up against all comers.

We had a tempting $240 in the birdie pool this week. Maybe it was the still "Ruffles have ridges" greens or our lack of putting skill, but there were only six birdies on the front, and only two of those will split the pot. Eric Aronson started things off with a bird on 3, and the new and improved Saul Payne had a beauty on 5. (The first time all year that we have had two $100+ winners on the same night.) Martin Enright (there he is again!) sunk his two-footer on 8, but star Billy Doonan covered that, while Greg Willard and Mr. Doonan cancelled each other on the 2nd hole.

There weren't alot of other standout performances, but notables who did not cash were Mark Nolan at +5, Wayne Musgrove (+4), and Greg Willard and Chris Sullivan at +3.  Bill Doonan had the most points with 17.

The back nine birdie pool was split by Jim Shannon (13), this humble hacker on 14, and with a very impressive drive and approach into the wind, Brian Henry Murphy on 17.  Outstanding birdies on 15 by Dan Svirsky and Bino cancelled each other.

After Week 15, we have paid out $3,980 in winnings, with 52 out of 59 active roster players having received at least one envelope this year. An additional $805 has been distributed from the optional back nine birdie pool.  The top earners to date (not including back nine) are:

             Rich Harding                     $235
             Eric Aronson                       200
             Steve Lozzi                          170
             John Carrabino                    165
             Jim Shannon                        163

Believe it or not, we are still being constantly asked when the year-end tourney is. HELLO: IT IS SUNDAY, OCT. 1ST. Next Tuesday, there will be a sign-up sheet for the tourney, which will be similar to the weekly sign in sheet. Next to your name, please mark YES if you are playing, and NO if you are not playing. By Sep. 26th, any blank line next to a name will be filled in with NO, and you will not be playing. As noted before, the tourney costs (greens fees, cart fees, and banquet) will be completely paid for from league funds, and we will still have a very generous pot for prize money and gifts.

   See you next Tuesday.
