Recap Week 3

The weather gods teased us with gorgeous weather Sunday and Monday, but when Tuesday is here, it is no longer clear.

Although the weather was not so hot, many SIGLers were, and we had some impressive outings. Leading the hit parade this week is Jared Cacciapaglia who had a career round, with two birdies, and 18 points to take Individual at +10. (Don't worry, he's going way up.) If Jared gets this much press all year, to save ink and time, we're gonna have to come up with a Cacci nickname for him. Playing his first SIGL round of his career, Sean Costello chose his partner well, and rode on Cacci's (his new nickname) coattails to take Team honors at +10.

Other notable rounds include Paul Begey (+6), Rick Walsh (+5), and Bill Pope and Mike Kelly at +4 each.

So far this year, it has been the rookies who have taken the lion's share of the cash, and Greg Paone continues that trend with a CTP win on the 4th hole at 9 feet. He dropped the putt in the jar, but his birdie did not live long.
With the greens having recovered from last week's aeration assault, there were 12 birdie putts that found the bottom of the hole, four of which lived. Steve Peterson continues his birdie habit with one right out of the box, those whacky MacNeil brothers snagged half the birdie pool with John on 3 and Ed on 8, and Dawn Weber put together two nice shots, to give herself a 10-foot chance, which she coolly drained to earn birdie money on 7. And as has happened so many times in the past, Dawn was also top point-getter in the women's division. Birdies that did not survive were had on 2, 4, and 9.

Speaking of birds, Rick Walsh got one and just missed another; on the 10th hole, Rick's drive was a low hard stinger that just missed decapitating a clueless Canada goose, and on his second time playing the first hole (Rick and Ed Finn got their money's worth by playing 27 holes) his tee shot winged some sort of air-borne creature. Rick didn't happen to have his Field Guide to North American Birds with him, but he was pretty sure it was either a yellow-browed bunting or the rare (now rarer) bristle-thighed curlew.

Welcome aboard to fashionably late newcomer Henry Alves, who began his SIGL career with an impressive 17 points, which along with $4.00, will get him a beer (domestic) from the cartgirl, not including tip. We have no fear though that with his solid game, and under the tutelage of swing coach Lenny Lima, Henry will be bounding up the money leader board in no time.

It pays to be an alternate. In two out of the three weeks, the Team winners have included an alternate. (For newcomers, if you are one of the four alternates picked each week, you are playing for your original team and also on an additional team or teams to fill-in for no-shows.) So any and all cash contributions to the secret Pick Me as an Alternate slush fund will not go unnoticed.

And finally, we are happy to report that Scott Silvia has found his wallet, and with pro bono help from the firm of Nolan, Aronson, and Tracy, LLP., Teddy Meyer has been fully exonerated of all charges.

   See you next Tuesday
