Recap Week 17

It promised to be a foreboding night, so many stayed home, and attendance was light. But for those who made the effort, it turned out all right. After some dark clouds and a few measly lightning bolts (they barely hurt), the skies cleared and we could get back to the business of three-putting every other green. After letting the greens recuperate from the the recent aeration, they were a little on the fuzzy side. I'm not saying they were slow, but when they rolled the ball down the Stimpmeter, it stopped at the end of the ramp. However, after they get a chance to dry out and are cut and rolled, the greens at Easton will again be some of the best you will find anywhere.

We must be running out of steam because for the second week in a row scores were below par (not good) with only a handful of players meeting quota. However it was Mark Nolan's night to shine as he carded a +4 to take Individual. And proving once again that two Nolans are better than one, Mark paired up with Tom to garner Team honors at +4; two first-time money winners. Good rounds were also turned in by Bino (+3) and Paul McDermott (+3) and high-pointer for the week was T.J. James at 16.

Closest to the Pin this week was the 4th hole which had its pin placed precariously close to the back ledge. But that didn't faze intrepid Ed MacNeil, who striped it in there to 6'7" to easily best the nearest competition.

For the first time this year, we had a birdie pool carryover, so practice your putting stroke because next week there will be $200 on the table to play for. Covered birds were 3 (Mark Nolan, Curtis, Dave Weber), 6 (Spears, Dave Weber), and 9 (Frick, McDermott). Hard luck golfer of the year has to go to snake-bitten Dave Weber who has had an outstanding year and a bushelful of birdies, many on the harder holes. But one way or another, everyone one manages to get covered, including two this week. Maybe next week's pot will be yours, Dave.

Ex-SIGLer and Easton member John DiSilvestro, who retired to Florida last year, was back on the old turf this weekend. Trying to keep up with John MacNeil, which is a difficult thing for any mere mortal, Johnny D notched his third career ace when he carded a 1/net 0 on the challenging 16th hole. Congratulations John.

Unclaimed property department: Jim Lyons and Steve Peterson; you've got mail.

And in an unusual development for this year, there was no need this week to file an incident report, as, believe it or not, nothing happened. We're gonna have to start making things up.

And finally, Bino is on his way to Myrtle today (5:36 flight and 8:50 tee time; unless the plane is landing on the course or Bino is parachuting onto the first tee, that's cutting it a little close.) The website will be updated with new quotas, etc. upon his return, unless he brings his computer with him and gets it done between lap(top) dances at The Doll House.

     See you next Tuesday.
