Recap Week 9

The summer solstice was on Tuesday and the stars were aligned. Just like Whitey Bulger was found by the FBI, I found my swing, and for the first time birdied the 18th hole only to be matched by my playing partner Jim Lyons. This boy eats gorilla meat, his drive on 18 left him with 115 to the green. I no sooner finish the 18th when I hear a cheer and look behind me to see Kelly and Tibbetts giving a chest bump. Tibbetts holes out from 155 for an eagle. The ball he used was one he found in the woods on 17. It had the name Frank Larosa printed on the side of it. He kept the ball.
This was a perfect night to play golf and Walsh gets his game out of reverse and charge forward with his best round of the year and take top honors.
Fitzpatrick hearing that the midyear tournament is coming, snaps out of his funk to get ready to defend his title of the Judge Smails Cup. It’s been a year since we’ve seen the Judge Smails Cup and like the Stanley Cup it has traveled around with Fitzpatrick being showcased at parties, bar mitzvah’s, wedding receptions and just out with the fellas on a Friday night.
Congratulations to Dana Willard who had his first birdie on the 4th hole, unfortunately it did not hold, but he too had his best round.
LB and Greg Jurgilewitz had a match play tournament as being members of Easton, with LB giving Jurgy 4 shots. Jurgy shakes off some early jitters by birding the 3rd hole to get back to 1 down. This match was a grind for both as Jurgy hung tough with LB sinking a number of must make putts. Jurgy goes 1 up after 13 and with Amen Corner lurking ahead and stroke holes coming up on 15 and 17, he can smell victory. LB is tournament tested and now has to win the 18th to send it to extra holes. He does and back to 1 they go. LB has a tough putt on 1 from the fringe needing to make it with Jurgy on in 2 and stroking, LB sinks it, but Jurgy has a chance to end it from 8 feet, just misses and LB dodges a bullet. The 3rd extra hole sinks Jurgy as he finds the water but, he chips in for a bogey to make LB 2 putt for par. He does to end the match. We can only hope to have such a match in our Midyear.
Week 10 is here and so are the 2nd half dues. See LB or Bino
The committee is working on a fair system for the upcoming mid-year. Do stay tuned!!
