And now back to our regular programming:
After a couple of weeks of choppy seas, the good ship S.I.G.L. is back in calm waters and it's full steam ahead. Teams showed up, all delinquents paid up, and everyone appeared to be reasonably well adjusted and/or sedated.
The Smails Cup tourney now enters the money stage with last night's results:
McNeice/Peters def James/Jurgy 3 and 2. Dave Peters continues his sterling play to help his team advance. Coupled with impressive play in his Easton C.C. match play tourney in which he shot his career round, Dave looks to become a double match play champ this summer.
Ed MacNeil/Turchette def Larosa/Fay 4 and 2. Bolstered by solid early play by Ed MacNeil, Alex Turchette put the dagger in deep on the 6th hole by stiffing it to within 1 and a half feet for a kick-in birdie to go 3 up with 3 to go. It was also the CTP hole. His only disappointment was that Ted Meyer later banked a wayward tee shot off a tree and onto the green and sunk the 15-footer for a smashing birdie. They are both 2 on the card, but over the long run, you will probably snag more birds employing Alex's method than Ted's.
Guyder/LaCasse def Stefanick 4 and 2. Frank's partner was unable to play, and although Frank played well, the duo of Guyder and LaCasse ganged up on the big guy and dinged and donged him to death.
Silvia/Peterson def Aronson/Mark Nolan 1 up. The only match that went the distance was decided by a clutch par on 8 by Steve Peterson that made the difference. Watch out for this sleeper tandem.
Next week:
McNeice/Peters v MacNeil/Turchette
Guyder/LaCasse v Silvia/Peterson
Stokes to be announced on the website once the new quotas are calculated.
