Recap Week 14
The finals of the Judge Smails Cup is set with McNeice and Peters taking on Peterson and Silvia.
McNeice/Peters took on E.MacNeil/Turchette with Turchette trying to carry his wounded partner, but it was to much as McNeice/Peters both played steady and closed out the match on the 8th hole. Peters gets another shot at the cup having fallen short 2 years ago. McNeice is a former champion and wants the cup back in his hands.
Congrats to Dave Peters for winning his Easton C.C. match play tourney for his flight, and to partner Mike McNeice for being in the final for his flight, in addition to them being in the Smails final. Tip to everyone: Don't play these guys in match play!
Guyder/Lacasse hung tough against Silvia/Peterson as the match was all square after 5 but the duo dinged in donged to take 6, 7, and 8 to end the match and the hopes of hoisting the cup.
Mark Nolan took the birdie pool with a birdie on 8 and if not for Larosa and Bradley missing makeable putts of within 6 feet the pool would have had it's first carry over. The one birdie lifted Nolan to the top 6 of the money board.
Rick Walsh joined the hole in one club last weekend when his 160 yard 7 iron on the 10th hole at Blue Rock Golf Course hopped twice and jumped in the hole. Echos of Bill Murray "it's in the hole" could be heard throughout the course. Rick magnanimously informed the bartender of his impressive feat and set up the bar.
I'm happy to be back after a 3 week layoff. It's a crazy game as I had my best round. The round of the day goes to Greg Willard who finished 1 over par and a sizzling 19 points with 2 birdies.
A get well goes out to our friendly neighborhood bartender Obo. The 19th hole is not the same without you. Eddie Munster is just not cutting it.

Recap Week 13
And now back to our regular programming:
After a couple of weeks of choppy seas, the good ship S.I.G.L. is back in calm waters and it's full steam ahead. Teams showed up, all delinquents paid up, and everyone appeared to be reasonably well adjusted and/or sedated.
The Smails Cup tourney now enters the money stage with last night's results:
McNeice/Peters def James/Jurgy 3 and 2. Dave Peters continues his sterling play to help his team advance. Coupled with impressive play in his Easton C.C. match play tourney in which he shot his career round, Dave looks to become a double match play champ this summer.
Ed MacNeil/Turchette def Larosa/Fay 4 and 2. Bolstered by solid early play by Ed MacNeil, Alex Turchette put the dagger in deep on the 6th hole by stiffing it to within 1 and a half feet for a kick-in birdie to go 3 up with 3 to go. It was also the CTP hole. His only disappointment was that Ted Meyer later banked a wayward tee shot off a tree and onto the green and sunk the 15-footer for a smashing birdie. They are both 2 on the card, but over the long run, you will probably snag more birds employing Alex's method than Ted's.
Guyder/LaCasse def Stefanick 4 and 2. Frank's partner was unable to play, and although Frank played well, the duo of Guyder and LaCasse ganged up on the big guy and dinged and donged him to death.
Silvia/Peterson def Aronson/Mark Nolan 1 up. The only match that went the distance was decided by a clutch par on 8 by Steve Peterson that made the difference. Watch out for this sleeper tandem.
Next week:
McNeice/Peters v MacNeil/Turchette
Guyder/LaCasse v Silvia/Peterson
Stokes to be announced on the website once the new quotas are calculated.

Recap Week 12
A famous quota goes something like this " What we have here is a failure to communicate". Here's an abbreviation you might understand "WTF". I was not even there and I'm pissed off. We try to make this league fun and with the midyear to be a chance to show how competitive you are and to play with different members of the league. The reward is the Cup. This happens way too often when all it takes is a simple email or phone call to let us know you can't play instead of the ignorant no show. I could go on with being a Postal Employee, I have a lot of pent up anger. Missing this tournament is not of my choice and would love to be a part of it. It might be time to weed out the stiffs in this league, so we can go back to having fun instead of the headache it has become.

LB it's your turn
Well, the Smails Cup match play tourney (probably the last one) staggers on, despite the belly-aching crybaby losers, and the teams and/or individuals that committed to the tourney and then don't show with no warning, (happy camping), which has deprived other teams from playing or, left some playing solo. And last, but certainly not least, the high-maintenance prima dona group that apparently expects personal individual phone calls every week to update them on everything, even while they refuse to read their e-mail, look at the website, or seek out any info themselves, and then pull tantrums because they were left in the dark. (By the way, you made very favorable first impressions with some of the league members who never met you before.) I think "Who the fuck are those assholes?" was one actual direct quote that pretty much captured the general sentiment.
Anyway, here are the results from Round One:
Stefanick/Fitzpatrick def Willard/Willard 2 Up
Silvia/Peterson def Meyer/Tracy 1 Up
Aronson/Mark Nolan def Dillon/Poverman 1 Up
James/Jurgilewicz def Finn/Walsh 2 and 1
LaRosa/Fay def Barry 3 and 2
Guyder/LaCasse def Ritchie/Ippolito default
Peters/McNeice def Bamford/Thompson default
Turchette/Ed MacNeil def Raynard/Kelly 2 and 1
Round Two:
Peters/McNeice v James/Jurgy
Aronson/Mark Nolan v Silvia/Peterson
Guyder/LaCasse v Stefanick/Fitzpatrick
LaRosa/Fay v Ed MacNeil/Turchette *
* Since we certainly don't expect this team to read e-mail, the website, or find out who they will be playing,
we will be more than happy to drive to your house or summer retreat on the Cape and personally inform you of this.
Based on your listening ability, we will repeat this information seven times.

Recap Week 11
Bino will not be playing for a couple of weeks due to a scheduling conflict with his official government duties (when you control the mail, you control information), so I am the substitute recap man.
It was a one-night Q school at Easton C.C. and 16 teams were relieved to advance. If you and your partner chose the same night to shit the bed, then .... well we have some nice parting gifts for you. Make it up at the year-end tourney, where the real money is at stake. For those teams that were eliminated and grumbled about having to play a qualifying round, if you played like that in the first round of match play, you would have been eliminated anyway.
The teams were announced last night and the strokes for each player will be calculated soon. Please try to make arrangements with your partner and opponents ahead of time so we don't have a porch cluster f@&%* next Tuesday. Be sure to clearly mark your card with the winning team and winning score before turning it in.
It was a beautiful night at Southern New England's premier wedding and golf destination, and some good scores to show for it, with 8 birdies. Mike McNeice continues his steady and superlative play with another 77, Frank LaRosa saved his partner, and Scott Bamford must have had an out-of-body experience or something with 3 birdies and 16 points. He's now got his sights on the Cup.
Santos Mercado has been removed from the milk carton and been put into the cold case file, and Brian Murphy made a surprise appearance, which hopefully will be more than a one-night stand; not that there is anything wrong with a one-night stand. Also, it has been nice to see Marshall Poverman back and our thoughts are with him and his family. Peter Jaffe will be missing a few weeks for medical reasons, and we wish him well, too.
Good luck in the tourney, and don't forget to bring payment for the second half.
