Recap Week 19

Well, another regular season has come to a close all too soon, and we had a surprisingly low turnout for the final night. (Resting up for the year-end?)

Again, most scores were nothing to write home about, but a few players finished the year on a high note; Larry Anshewitz came on strong in the closing weeks and finished by winning Individual with +3 and birdies on his two final holes of the year. And despite a real lack of play this year, Mike McNeice just dusts the clubs off, and with barely a practice swing, shoots 38/79 with two frontside birds to capture Team honors (+3) along with Dan Szczurko (E). Larry and Mike were highpointers with 18.

Jim Lyons, who had a career day for last year's tourney, had a nice tune-up for this Sunday when he grabbed the final CTP of the year with an approach to 8' on 8 and threw in a birdie to boot.

There were a total of nine birdies on the night, five of which lived: Mike McNeice on 2 and 6, Joe Curtis on 3, Jim Lyons on 7 and Larry Anshewitz on 9. Covered birds were on 4 (Szczurko, Barry) and 8 (Anshewitz, Bradley).

The regular-season money winner turned out to be Ed MacNeil, who had a $100 birdie last week, to finish with a total of $260, followed by Co-Rookies of the Year Larry Anshewitz ($230) and Steve Lozzi  ($205). Congrats, boys. In all, of 54 golfers who played all or part of the year, 49 won something. And there is still plenty of dough up for grabs.

The Sam Solari Memorial year-end tourney is this Sunday, 9/22 with the first tee time at 11:12. We will be going off the front and back. For newcomers, here's the drill:

Sign in at the desk. (Greens fees and carts are paid for.) Check the posting on the porch for your tee time and group. Hook up with your group. Pay Frank La Rosa for optional birdies ($20 and $5), Grab a box lunch and drink, ONE PER CUSTOMER, in the clubhouse, be at the tee on time, keep an accurate tally of your quota points, play well, win money.

In addition to league funds providing for the cost of greens fees, carts, lunch and dinner, there will be prize money of $1,850, which consists of team, individual gross and net for each class, CTP for each Par 3, and Longest Drive and Senior (60 years and +) Longest Drive on Hole 18. In addition, there should be about $900 - $1,000 in the birdie pools, and there will be some fine raffle prizes.

     Good luck to all.
