Recap Week 12
We had the best weather of the year this week after a rough run of sweltering heat or thunderous rain. The fairways were in the best shape of the year, and it was not surprising that there was a lot of good golf played. But the player of the week was clearly Frank LaRosa who came out of the gate with a birdie on 1 and then topped that with an eagle on 8, popping it into the hole from 100 yards. No golfer I have ever known has put more long-distance shots into a hole than him. His league season high point total of 22 earned him a +7 and Individual honors. Marshall Poverman had his best night of the year at +6 to garner the Team honor along with steady Dave Weber (+2). And Joe Curtis continues his uncanny knack for knocking it close on CTP holes and took the prize on the 4th hole at 4' 3". Are you guys using your own special measuring tape? (Ed, I'm kidding!)
There were a very impressive 14 birdies and an eagle on the night, and four of those lived: Frank on 1 and 8 (eagle) and Johnny MacNeil on 2 and 7. Covered birds were on 3 (Bino, Lyons, Lozzi, Karas), 4 (J. Fay, Curtis), 8 (T.J., Lozzi, Dave Weber) and 9 (Raynard, Poverman). Sorry Paul Raynard; after further review your birdie was covered. John Fay, one of these days you'll get a paying birdie.
SIGLers Bob Frick and Saul Payne had a fun-filled Tuesday as they met in the Easton parking lot at 4;45 AM drove to Barnstable, went on a deep sea fishing trip, and still made it back to play 18. Oh, to be young...no scratch that. Word has it that Saul hooked a big gefilte fish but it got away. And apparently the sea air did Frickie some good as he shot a cool 77 after getting his legs back. Also, a notable round was turned in by Mike McNeice who lit it up the back with a remarkable 34.
Our thoughts are with long-time good guy Peter Jaffe, who had an unexpected and unfortunate accident/incident on the course last night. Peter, drop us a line and let us know how you are. And it was a real pleasure to get a special guest appearance from long-time member and friend Brian Murphy who is on the comeback trail. And it was nice to see that Bino was able to scale the wall at MCI-Cambridge and get in a night of golf. They give you plenty of vacation time; the catch is, you can never use it.
And finally, we will be into the 13th week of the year next week, and there are still numerous deadbeats who owe for the half. In the past, we have had golfers who play on the cuff for 3 or 4 weeks in a half and then drop out, stiffing the paying members, and we're not going to let that happen again. This is not Ogolfacare, so pay up. If payment is not made by the end of the night next week, your name will be removed from the sign-in sheet, you are out, and the bouncer is not letting you back in. That goes for you Easton C.C. members, too. This applies whether you can make it next week or not. Other than that, have a nice day.
See you next Tuesday.

Recap Week 11
We thought we were in the clear after showers earlier in the day, but the clear skies did not last long as a "front" quickly moved in, preventing us from getting in 18, with the exception of Bino and the Jackrabbits. Most all sign-ins got 9 in, but apologies to the 10 golfers who couldn't or didn't finish their round. We'll try to make it up to you with an extra bag of chips in your year-end tourney box lunch, or something like that. So with no real room left in the schedule for any more rain postponements, results are official.
It was the night of the Gregs, as Jurgy and Willard had their best nights of the year G-Jurg, battling a bad back all year, finally broke through and took Individual with a +5 and G-Will paired up with steady Eddie Finn to take the Team honor. Closest to Pin may never be known, as the marker was not returned, and has mysteriously disappeared. The crack investigative team that has been working on the case of the missing golfers from two weeks ago, is now all over this one, too.
There was a total of 10 birdies on the night, and two of them paid cash money: Steve Lozzi on 2, , and Greg J. on 6. Birds were also had on 3 (LaRosa,Payne), 4 (Larosa G Willard) 8 (DaSaro,G. Willard,Begley), and 9 (Finn, Barry). High pointer for the week was Frank LaRosa who had 17.
Unclaimed Property Dept.: Paul Begley and Dave Peters, you have envelopes waiting for you.
Second half dues payments were due this week (7/23) and the voluntary response was right on the line between bad and pathetic. Funny how everyone suddenly becomes illiterate when reading the weekly recap when there is any mention of the words "payment due." Maybe it is the small type, and this will help: PAYMENT WAS DUE LAST WEEK AND IS NOW PAST DUE. PAY THIS WEEK OR YOU ARE OUT.
And finally, it is with mixed emotions that we must bid a fond farewell to SIGLer, Easton Country Clubber, and all-round good guy Dave Peters and his lovely wife Claudia who are pulling up stakes in these parts and heading to the warmer climes of the Hilton Head, South Carolina area. Dave, stay in touch, and we'll always have a spot for you on Tuesdays when you come back to visit. Good luck!

Recap
Lots of no shows on this hot steamy night, but Bob Frick didn't care because his birdie on 3 held while the other 4 cancelled each other out...2 on 2 and 2 on 8. He jumps to 3rd on the money list with $100 pay out. Steve Dasaro +6 tried to get in on birdie money as he had 2 of the 5 but still got top honors while Dave Peters +3 jumps on his back to get team honors.
I was released from prison on good behavior and the rust of not playing showed. Swing oil was needed to get back in the groove and with the ball carrying in the hot humid conditions managed to pile up 11 pars on the round.
The heat was making guys a little cranky and with the policy of no personal alcoholic beverages allowed on the course, someone forgot to tell Pamela the cart girl who failed to keep up with the thirst of the SIGL golfers, she was no where to be found for holes at a time. Members were seen waving and doing jumping jacks to try get her attention only to realize it was a mirage.
Good Luck to Mike "Mayhem" Bradley who went extra holes to beat Rich Mckenna senior in Easton's member tournament and advance to the finals. That's 2 years in a row that a member from SIGL has produced finalist with Jim Lyons winning it all last year.
Week 11 is upon us which means 2nd half dues, so bring your checkbook...we accept cash....visa...mastercard...Amex...discover....Paypal.
LB had to take care of some personal business and will be back next week with the recap.
See ya next Tuesday

Recap Week 9
Another fine night at Easton C.C. with the rain
holding off, attendance was high, and a lot of good golf was played.
Alex Turchette, trying to keep up with the Joneses, I mean the MacNeils,
had his best night of the year to take Individual honors at +5.
Teammates Jim Lyons and Paul Begley were both on their game and earned
the Team prize at +7. And Rick Walsh look-alike Joe Curtis continued his
Closest to Pin mastery with 9'2" on Hole 8.
There were 10 birdies, but only two held up.
Larry Anshewitz jumped onto the money board with $50 bird on 3, and
steady Steve Lozzi sunk a birdie on 7 to earn the same. Covered birdies
were at 4 (Begley, Peters), 6 (Barry, LaRosa), 8 (Curtis, McDermott),
and 9 (Walsh, J. Fay.) Hard luck golfer of the week goes to John Fay who
had his 8th birdie of the year, but has yet to cash. And Mark Spears
had an impressive night at +4.
Shot of the day goes to Rick Walsh who put his
approach shot to within 10 feet of the first pin. Problem was, he was
playing the 13th hole at the time. How could that possibly happen, you
ask? He hit a moon shot over 13 green, hit the cart path and bounced
like a superball onto the 1st green. Just another green in regulation
for R.W.
And we have the curious case of three of our
golfers who signed in, teed off on 1, and, like pilots over the Bermuda
Triangle, were never seen again, possible victims of a para-normal
abduction. The Easton C.C. elite ranger unit, while skilled in covert
operations, is also trained in the investigative sciences, and they are
now on the case.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons, I mean the U.S.
Postal Service, is at it again; Our man Bino has been a dedicated public
servant for over 25 years and they won't even give him two hours of his
own time off on Tuesdays, so he had to miss another week. What is this,
Russia? Sons of bitches! But there's light at the end of the tunnel:
Bino's parole date is less than two years away.
I'd like to add how nice it is driving around in my easy bake oven and the work place is like sitting in on the Whitey Bulger trial with F-Bombs being thrown all over the place. Ah yes, two more years. I'll just keep popping my serenity now pills.
And finally, Easton C.C. enforcement agents
were out on patrol this week, and we're happy to report that there were
no arrests or incidents, and no Code 426 violations: Possession of a
controlled substance - package store Bud Light, although we did have two
upstanding SIGLers who were detained for questioning on priors.
See you next Tuesday.
