HIGHPOINTER           BOB BOURNE                 20 pts.

The wind was angry that day, my friend. But that didn't deter the gritty grinders of SIGL who continue to impress with another week of big scores, and only 14 participants who failed to meet their mark.

Rookie Bob Bourne has been quietly playing good golf all year, producing the league's highest average. But Lefty really stepped it up this week with a breakout performance of 20 points as the result of a below par 35 on the front (8 pars and a birdie). That was good for a winning +7 to take 1st Individual. Also, for the first time, Bob achieved the rare "I shot my age" distinction with a super duper round of 74, actually one shot below his 75 years. (For comparison, I shot my father's age.) Great job, Bob.

Mark Spears also had his best night of the year with a +6 and will be rewarded with 2nd Individual.

Mr. Bourne's record night, along with partner Pat Heffernan's even, will be good for the 1st Team win at +7.

We had a very unusual 5-way tie for 2nd Team with Payne/Fay, Spears/Sullivan, Raynard/Mark Nolan, Shannon/Russell, and E. MacNeil/Lima all coming in at +4. And the card-off winner is .....
Ed MacNeil and Len Lima, with Lenny's clutch par on 5 making the difference.

Terry Thompson continues to be a big earner, this time beating out Ed Finn by 10" for Closest to Pin on the 4th hole with a tee ball to 10' 10". (Terry you also have an older envelope to pick up.)

Saul Payne continues his hot play, and this week will be rewarded for his consecutive birdies on 2 and 3. Mark Spears had a heck of bird on 6 that lived, and Paul McDermott was the only entrant to get a 3 on the inviting 8th hole. And for the second week in a row, the 9th hole gave it up as easily as a drunk whore, as Wayne Musgrove notched an eagle on top of Alex Turchette's from last week. The 5th hole was smashed and of course birdies on 9 were not good enough.

In addition to cash winners this week, other notables who deserve mention are Jim Shannon at +5, Ed Finn, Rick Walsh, and Paul Raynard at +4, and Alex Turchette, TJ James, Mike Leonard, and Rick Keating all at +3. Highpointer was Bob Bourne with 20.

The increasingly popular back nine birdie pool produced multiple winners this week: Rich White on 10, Len Lima on 14, and Jim Lyons will get back nine money for two weeks in a row with his birdie on 16. This humble hacker's bird on 15 was smashed by a beauty of a birdie by Ed Leach on the same hole. But wait, ........ after further review, Eddie didn't get in the pool. Ah, that's a shame.

And finally, a scorekeeping request: circles should be used for birdies only. If you are keeping track of your own match within your group, figure out a different system than putting circles all over the card. We shouldn't have to play Where's Waldo? to pick out the birdies. Thanks.

  See you next Tuesday.
