WEEK 12 CTP 4TH HOLE
HIGHPOINTER STEVE LOZZI 18 pts.
Well, we kicked off the second half of the season in fine fashion as we are playing our best golf of the year. A lot of big numbers were posted, and we had only 9 competitors who did not meet quota.
Top dog this week is Steve Lozzi who engineered an outstanding 18 pts., good for a winning +7 on the back of three birdies. Right on his heels was the hot Terry Thompson who posted a stellar +6 for 2nd Individual.
Mr. Lozzi was partnered this week with Mark Spears who returned a fine +2, so Steve and Mark will be rewarded with 1st Team honors at +9. Terry Thompson also had a solid partner in Rich White (+2) and they will take the 2nd Team prize.
For the first time, we used the 3rd Hole for Closest to Pin, and as predicted, it would take a great approach shot to earn the cash. And that is just what Paul Begley did when his second shot settled just 3'1" from the hole, which also set him up for a winning birdie.
We had an impressive 12 birdies and an eagle on the front this week, and five of them will be rewarded with skins money. Steve Lozzi will add to his winnings with a bird on 2, Mr. Begley got his birdie on the 3rd, Bob Loring will collect for another week with an impressive 3 on the 5th, and Saul Payne continues his torrid play and had a paying birdie on 6. (Playing partners Lozzi, Loring, and Payne had a very productive night, collectively winning $122. And the elder statesman of the group, Len Lima had his own fine +3 night but no cash.) And just back from a fantastic trip to Bali, Alex Turchette kept up the fantasticness with an eagle 3 on the 9th hole. Nice job Alex. Birdies that did not survive were had on 4 (Lozzi, Raynard), 8 (Lozzi, Curtis, Thompson, Fay), and 9 (Doonan, Hrenko).
As has happened many times this year, the back nine birdie pool was taken by a sole winner. This week Jim Lyons drained a nice putt on 11 for birdie and will be rewarded with the entire $115 pot. The 13th hole was smashed by Mike McNeice and Bill Doonan.
Highpointer for the night was the featured Steve Lozzi with 18. Notable performers who did not get rewarded were Bill Doonan, John Hrenko, Paul Raynard, and Alex Turchette, all at +5, Steve Danieli with a +4, and Ed Finn, Len Lima, and Steve Dasaro at +3.
Second half payments were due this week, and it was pathetic how many players failed to pay as required, despite two weeks of reminders. There will be no e-mails, calls, requests, demands, or chasing people down in an attempt to get payments. If you do not pay next week, your name will be removed from the roster, and you will be out for the remainder of the year. (Any player who says "What's the matter, you don't think I'm good for it?" will be permanently expelled.)
Easton CC had their annual Member/Guest Tourney this week, and congrats are in order to Rich White and guest who were a part of the four-man winning team, and also to Saul Payne, Len Lima, and their guests for nabbing 3rd place.
And let's keep fellow SIGLer and good guy Paul Begley in our thoughts as Paul will soon be going in for a major medical procedure. Good luck, buddy and we will see you soon back on the links.
And finally, the SIGL Weather Advisory Committee was concerned about some severe thunderstorms heading our way on Tuesday afternoon. For most of us, it held off just enough, but the Teddy Meyer Foursome (still available for weddings and bar mitzvahs) got caught in the deluge half way through. Despite two of their more cautious brothers retiring to the 19th hole, the intrepid Ted and partner Paul Raynard trudged their way through and valiantly completed their nine holes. Bino, they would have made great mailmen!
See you next Tuesday.
