WEEK 5 CTP: 9TH HOLE
So far, it's been a season of fits and starts, but we're just now hitting our stride, with an impressive night of scoring, and plenty of big plus numbers. We had 20 players at +2 or better,
Co-MVPs this week are Eric Aronson, Esq, and sweet-swinging Lou Silva. Eric exploded for 15 points on the back of two birds, which earned him Individual honors at +8. And Lou was right behind
him with two birdies of his own for a second place total of +7. (For all your printing needs, go to eastcoastpress.com and tell 'em SIGL sent you.) The hard luck Peter Frasca had a great night himself at +7, but lost out to Lou on a card-off.
Mr. Aronson's +8 was complemented by a solid +2 from Len Lima, who has a knack for picking the right partner, to take 1st Team at +10. 2nd Team honors were earned by John Hrenko's +5 in combo with Ed Leach's contribution of +2. (It pays to be an alternate.)
Johnny MacNeil continues his winning ways, this time by securing CTP money with an approach to 8'7" on the 8th hole.
There were 13 birdies on the night, and four of them will be rewarded with skins money. This humble hacker put an approach to 2' on the second hole, and it surprisingly held up all night. (I was so motivated by the bird that I promptly tripled bogied the next two holes.) Star of the night Eric Aronson will get paid for his birdie on 4. And John Hrenko impressively birdied the difficult 5th hole, and was so motivated that he promptly birdied 6, too. That is a rare combination. Birds on 3 (Frasca, Silva, E. MacNeil), 8 (Silva, Silvia), and 9 (Leach, Aronson, McDermott, McGarry) were smashed.
Highpointer for the night was Lou Silva with an outstanding 19, which is good even for a man of his natural skill. Other notables not mentioned above are Chris Sullivan, Scott Silvia, and Jim Egan at +4. (For all your vehicle needs, got to copelandtoyota.com and tell 'em SIGL sent you.) Coming in at +3 were Steve Danieli, Rick Keating, Jay Chapman, and Steve Peterson.
After only four weeks of play, we already have 28 players who have made the money list with John Hrenko leading the way.
And finally, congrats go out to friend and future SIGLer Jim Crook who will be tying the knot in the Green Mountain State this Friday before jetting off to Greece for his honeymoon. As the late, great Mae West once said, "Marriage is a great institution.....if you like institutions."
See you next Tuesday.
