WEEK 11 CTP 8TH HOLE
After a mediocre performance last week, we promptly got back in form with another outstanding day of scoring, with many big numbers. Playing partners Dan Svirsky and John Hrenko battled hole by hole for top honors and both finished with super +9s, with Danno narrowly prevailing with his tie-breaking par on 1. And the duo kept it going on the back as Dan finished with a 75, with Johnny finishing one stroke back at 76. Career rounds, gentlemen? If so, congratulations. If not, congrats anyway.
Dan and John were also lucky to be paired with a fine supporting cast as Mr. Hrenko's +9 was coupled with the smoking hot (that just means he's playing great golf) Steve Lozzi who contributed an outstanding +5 to take 1st Team honors at +14. Likewise, Dan S. got plenty of help from Tom James at +3 to take 2nd Team at +12.
There were many fine tee balls on the Closest to Pin 6th Hole, but the best of the lot was the Dighton Dynamo Greg Willard's approach to 5'9" to take the cash. But we won't know until the next paragraph if he sunk the birdie putt.
There were a healthy 17 birdies on the front nine and five of those will get paid. And for the first time in memory, every hole was birdied. Greg Willard started off a great round with a birdie on 1, Rick Walsh had a fine day and gets rewarded for his bird on 2, Steve Lozzi continues his roll with a 3 on 3, Scott Silvia cashed on the 5th, and J. Hrenko had the sole birdie on the 7th hole. Terry Thompson was crushed that his birdie on 4 was crushed (Svirsky), and yes, Greg sunk the birdie putt on 6 but so did Musgrove and Hrenko, 8 was smashed (Szczurko, Curtis), and so was the 9th (Begley, Mattes, Frasca, J. MacNeil, Svirsky).
As noted, we had a lot of great scoring and many were rewarded, but many were not. The hardest luck player of the day was Mark Nolan who posted a superb +8 but was shut out. Playing partner Scott had his own +8, but at least got paid for a bird. Other notables were Steve Mattes and Paul Begley at +6, Mike Leonard and Dan Szczurko posting +5s, and Bob Bourne and Dana Willard at +4. And for the record, Mike McNeice recorded a super 74.
We had 24 players enter the backnine skins pool, with nine birdies sunk and one third of those getting paid. Money maker Steve
Lozzi has the profitable knack of making birdies on holes all by himself so will take his reward for birdies on 13 and 16, and TJ added to his team prize with a birdie on the 17th. Birdies on 11 (Frasca, Walsh), 12 (Doonan, Svirsky), and 15 (Bourne, Walsh) were smashed.
At the halfway mark, we have dispersed $3,568 in prize money with 42 players collecting at least one envelope. These are the top ten earners to date:
Lozzi $377, J. MacNeil 273, Loring 262, Finn 193
McNeice 181, Shannon 140, Svirsky 135, Danieli 131
Tracy 125, Doonan 123
And as usual, SIGLers were well represented in the Easton CC Club Championship. Congrats to TJ James who captured the C Division crown, and to Ready and Steady Steve Lozzi (2nd in A Div.), John Hrenko (2nd in C Div.), and Steve Mattes, who took 3rd in the D Class. Nice work comrades.
And finally, the second half starts next week and payment is due: $335 or $65. We accept cash or checks, but sorry, do not accept Visa, Mastercard, or lame excuses.
See you next Tuesday.
HEY, YOU'RE HOT
