I've heard of fashionably late, but fashionably absent? For the second straight week, attendance was sparse, with only 38 of 55 SIGLers teeing it up. Is everybody on vacation? Together?

Over the past few weeks, scores have really come back to earth, with only seven golfers exceeding +2, and a whole bunch of minus scores.

But that didn't bother Gentleman Jim Shannon who had a breakout night with a season low 39 on the back of two birdies. That was good for 17 points and an easy win +8 for 1st Individual.

John Hrenko got back on track with a fine +4 and Jay Chapman matched John with his best night of the year at +4. And Mr. Hrenko's bogey on 1 was good enough to break the tie for 2nd Individual.

Jim Shannon had no help from his partner (sorry Jim, this humble hacker had his worst front side of the year) and as luck would have it, the +4 boys, Hrenko and Chapman were paired up this week, and will proudly take 1st Team honors.

Scott Silvia is starting to play better golf each week, and his +3 will be paired with his assigned alternate, friend Paul Raynard, who pitched in with his own +2 and they will collect for 2nd Team.

And Eric Aronson joined Chapman, Silvia, and Raynard of the 19th hole roundtable gang in getting an envelope by his fine approach on 9 to 8'5" to earn CTP cash.

There were only nine front side birdie putts that found the hole. Johnny MacNeil resumed his winning ways with a sole birdie on the 5th hole, and referee/umpire Dan McGarry got the call right on 9 with a surviving bird that earns him half the pot. Common birdies were had on 2 (Shannon, G. Willard), 3 (Shannon, Thompson, Doonan), and 8 (Chapman, Silvia).

There were not a lot of impressive scores this week, so aside from those who won some dough, the only others worth noting are Steve Danieli, Rick Walsh, and Mark Spears, all at +3. Jim Shannon was easily highpointer at 17.

Back nine birdies were even sparser than the front, with only five finding the hole. Rick Keating had a nice 3 on 15 and Steve Lozzi resumed his winning ways after a short break, to split the pot with a neat chip-in birdie on 17. The 13th hole puts out more than (fill in the blank with your favorite high school slut) and this week was birdied by Finn, Lozzi, and Keating.

And finally, we bid farewell to two long-time SIGLers and long-time good guys John Fay and Steve Peterson who will be moving on to new locations and new golf experiences. Best of luck gentlemen, and you are always welcome back.

  See you next Tuesday.

                           I LOVE GETTING BIRDIED
                              ALL DAY AND NIGHT
