Hard to believe, but the regular season is now in the books. There were alot of fine scores again this week, but talk about fantastic finishes; After almost carding a career low round last week with his super 74, this week Mike McNeice kept the pedal to the metal with a league season best 21 points on the front on his way to a 75. With his strong finish, Mike tied the seldom seen Greg Paone for high scoring average for the year at 12.63. (Mike is hot as a pistol going into the year-end tourney, so anyone who wants him as their A man, offers are being accepted.)
Mike easily took 1st Individual with his +9, and the affable Eddie Leach went along for the ride, holding steady by meeting his quota, to take 1st Team with Mike at +9.
Bill Doonan also had a great night with his +6 to grab 2nd Individual. His partner was no help, so Johnny Fay stepped up with a superlative +5 and partner Tom Nolan chipped in with a +2 to take 2nd Team at +7.
It looked like Mr. McNeice's 7'1" was going to hold up for Closest to Pin on 2, but late in the day, Dana Willard striped his third shot to 5'10" to snag the prize. (Although Steve Lozzi says thanks for missing your birdie bid.)
There were a respectable 11 birdies for the night, and four that will produce a cash reward. Mike McNiece started strong right out of the gate with a bird on 1, Steve Lozzi's birdie on 2 surprisingly lived, Greg Willard topped his father's take on the night by $5 with his birdie on 5, and Steve Peterson will be rewarded with his fine birdie on the always tough 7th hole. Birdies on 3 (Doonan, Moore), 4 (Loring, McNeice), and 8 (Doonan, McNeice, John MacNeil) were smashed.
There was limited participation in the back nine birdie pool, but a few golfers were glad they got in: After a terrible front nine, and while battling a gimpy knee, TJ James came through with his career-low nine hole score with a 33 (seven pars, two birdies) on the back. His birds on 11 and 13 lived, as did outstanding birdies by Terry Thompson (17th) and playing partner Jim Shannon (18th).
Players who had notable nights without cashing were Ed Finn and John MacNeil at +3, and Dan McGarry, John Tracy, and Jay Chapman at +2. Mike McNeice's 21 points was much the best for highpoint honors.
And finally, the year-end tourney is this Sunday with a shotgun start at 8:00, with a dinner to follow. All greens fees and cart fees have been paid for, and we will be playing for over $4,000 in cash prizes. Since this is a shotgun with other groups on the course, Easton and SIGL are expecting everyone to take a cart. Be there by 7:30 to hook up with your partners.
Playing teams will be published tomorrow. The team you play with in the tourney (not the team you play with on Tuesdays) will be your scoring team. Since we have 49 entrants, we will have 10 foursomes and 3 threesomes. The 3 playing threesomes will be assigned randomly-drawn alternates to fill out their scoring foursome. Therefore, there will be three players who 1) are playing and scoring on one team, and 2) are scoring on an additional team.
See you Sunday.
WE'RE A THREESOME
(NOT THAT THERE'S ANYTHING
WRONG WITH THAT)
