CTP-WEEK 15: 8TH HOLE
After a week where half the league was AWOL for some reason, we were back in almost full force, and we resumed our fine midseason play.
The hot hand this week belonged to Jekyll and Hyde Dan Svirsky who turned in an impressive 38, worth 17 points and a winning +6.
Ed Finn and Ryan Burke paired up by each producing a robust +4, for a Team-winning total of +8, prevailing over Mr. Svirsky and Hzurd (+2) in a card-off.
On the Closest to the Pin 6th hole, Lenny Lima's 14'1" held up for most of the night, but that was bested in the end by Mark Nolan with a nifty tee ball to 11'. (And he sunk the bird.)
There was a modest nine birdies for the night, but only two will be rewarded with cash. Eric Aronson gets on the money board for the first time with a bird on 4, and Terry Thompson continues his impressive play and winning ways with a fine birdie on the 5th hole. Birdies that died on the vine include the 3rd hole (Svirsky, Anderson), the 6th (Finn, Mark Nolan), and 9 (Finn, John MacNeil, Anderson).
In addition to the Team and Individual winners, other notables include comeback player of the year Steve Anderson at +5, the happily retired Johnny Fay at +4, and Eric Aronson, Jim Shannon, Terry Thompson, Dave Weber, and the I-can't catch-a-break Ed MacNeil, all at +3. Highpointer for the night was Dan Svirsky at 17.
And finally, the accolades keep coming from far and wide for the impressive accomplishments of SIGLers this season. The club championship was recently held at Easton, and again, we were more than well represented. Congrats to on-sabbatical Greg Paone for taking the crown in the A flight in an exciting playoff finish. And hats off to Steve Lozzi and Bill Doonan for finishing 3rd in that division. Also, after winning the member/guest tourney earlier this year, Rich McKenna added the B flight championship to his already impressive resume. And a tip of the cap to future SIGLer Jim Crook (once he gets his wedding and graduate school out of the way, Jim will be able to concentrate on the important things, like golf on Tuesdays) who placed second, and to John Hrenko who secured third in the B division. Job well done, men!
See you next Tuesday.
