WEEK 14 CTP: 6TH HOLE
I wasn't able to make it Tuesday, but I have it on good authority that a lot of good golf was played again, as we continue in our fine mid-season form. (Where was everybody else, as we had a season-low 38 golfers tee it up this week? That just means more cash for the year-end tourney.)
Apparently, getting a new cow valve installed in the old ticker works wonders for your golf game, as good guy Steve Anderson played udderly fantastic after coming back from his heart surgery. Steve broke through with a crisp 39 with a birdie, good for a winning +8 as Individual. Earning a respectable +1, and getting teamed with the star of the day, Mr. Anderson, Dan Szcurko will round out the winning Team at +9.
On the 4th hole, Mike Bradley edged out Lou Silva with a neat 7'1" approach. Although Mayhem has never missed a 7 foot putt, somehow this one didn't fall for the bird, but he will gladly accept his cash reward for Closest to the Pin.
There were ten birdies for the night, and four of those will earn an envelope. John Hrenko continues his hot hand (+7) by sinking surviving birds on 2 and 6. Brian Murphy had his best night of the year at +6, and will be rewarded for his birdie on 5, while also getting on the money board for the first time. And Mike Bradley added to his CTP winnings with a paying bird on 9.
Birdies that did not survive were on 3 (Keating, E. MacNeil), 7 (Silva and James, while playing in the same group), and 8 (Anderson, M. Nolan).
Other noteworthy performances were turned in by the hard luck Ed MacNeil at +6, and TJ and Paul Begley at +4 each. Highpointer for the night was John Hrenko with 17.
Easton CC recently completed its elimination match play championship, and as expected, SIGL was well represented. Congratulations to the always steady Bob Loring, who prevailed in the B Division, and to Saul Payne, a dentalman and a scholar, for earning the crown in the C Division. Well done, men!
And finally, all the major golf championships have been played, and we're happy to report that SIGLers have swept the last three of the season in the popular Easton CC pools: This humble gambler took the US Open, Mark Nolan nailed the British Open (I refuse to call it the Open Championship), and TJ completed the trifecta by winning the PGA Championship pool. Not only can SIGLers play, we can pick 'em, too!
See you next Tuesday.
I'LL NEVER COMPLAIN ABOUT CANADA GEESE
ON A GOLF COURSE AGAIN!
