Well, we were lucky to have pleasant weather for a night of golf, but that is where the pleasantness ended for many of us. We have to apologize to the groups that went out around 3:00 to 3:30 for the painfully slow pace of play Tuesday. This year, Easton decided to put out a mini-league of three groups in front of us, and they have been beyond slow, and with no ranger on duty. Three times this year, our group has had to start bouncing around the course because we couldn't handle playing behind them. It's not that they are particularly bad; it is that they are ignorant a-holes, who think that since they paid greens fees, they have the course to themselves. Easton CC management is on it.
Apparently getting out before the golfers from hell is the key because Mr. Len Lima was star of the day, ladies and gentlemen. Len had a very impressive 14 points, good for a +6. That was more than enough to garner Individual honors, and was also key in securing the Team prize along with Bill Doonan, who contributed with a solid +2. Lena and Bill have now both won three times this year.
There were only six birdies that fell this week, and two of those survived. Not that he is greedy or anything, but Len Lima will humbly accept payment for his bird on 8, and Steve DaSaro got on the money board for the first time with a nifty 3 on the 5th hole. The only other holes that were birdied were 3 and 4 with two each.
Another first time winner was Dan Szczurko who fashioned his third shot on 2 to within the length of your average NBA center (6'10") to take the CTP cash award. He had a golden opportunity to grab a birdie that would have lived, but if you were not directly that hole, it was a tricky putt. (Dan, did you ever find your ball on 7? For some reason the area over by the 9th tee is the hardest place on the course to find a ball.)
Although there were only six birdies, there were many outstanding scores. In addition to those already mentioned, notables include Johnny Fay at +5, Eric Aronson and Mark Spears at +4, and seven others at +3. Highpointer was Steve Lozzi with 15, who had a sterling 75 for the night.
After seven weeks, here is the top of the leaderboard:
Len Lima $155
Larry Barry 135
Bill Doonan 134
Steve Lozzi 121
John MacNeil 87
And finally, good luck and have fun to all SIGLers who will be playing in the Easton member/guest this weekend.
See you next Tuesday.
IT'S NOT THE CLUB'S FAULT
