WEEK 3 CTP:                                   4TH

For whatever reason, we had a bunch of no-shows Tuesday, and based on the way we played, maybe we would have been better off if we had all stayed home. Whether you played the ball up in the rough or down (more about that later) it didn't seem to matter as we were a collective 51 points below quota, with only nine individuals, and only two teams out of 28, exceeding quota. Yikes.

If you managed to eke out a plus score, you had a real good chance of winning money this week. And two out of the three top performers happened to get paired up this week, so Jay Chapman with a fine +3 and partner Gary Russell with his own +3 will take 1st Team honors at +6. The only other teams in plus territory will also cash as Mike Nolan at +2 and Greg Willard also at +2 are 2nd Team winners.

Top dog this week was Honest John Fay who turned in an outstanding +4 to take 1st Individual bragging rights. Plus 3 will take 2nd Individual, and Gary Russell's bogey on 1 will decide a card-off over Mayhem Bradley's and Jay Chapman's +3.

John MacNeil jumped on the money train with a stellar approach shot to 4'5" on the 3rd Hole to capture the Closest to Pin award.

With 46 guys having nine shots at it each, there were only four birdies on the night. Johnny Mac naturally sunk his birdie putt on 3 but was smashed by John Hrenko. That will leave a fine birdie on 6 by Jim Shannon and big-hitter Greg Willard's 4 on 9 as the winning
birds, taking home $55 each.

The back nine was equally stingy in the birdie department, with only three made, and all will pay. Mike McNeice made up for a lackluster front side with winning birds on 10 and 12, and steady Bob Loring made an impressive 3 on the difficult 15th.

There were not a lot of notables aside from those winning money. The only other plus quota players on the entire roster were Mike Bradley at +3 and Rick Walsh and rookie Ned Babyak at +1. Highpointer was Gary Russell at 13.

And finally, SIGL management has to apologize for a late decision (10:00 AM) to play the ball up everywhere instead of just the fairway. Although the decision was sound, we forgot that there are now a couple of groups that go out really early, so they played
the ball down in the rough instead. (For the record, their scores were no worse than those who played it up everywhere.) Most of the time, late is better than never, but this was a case of late is worse than never. For the rest of the season, the ball may be played up (preferred lie) ONLY in the fairway of the hole being played. You may not touch the ball in the rough unless it is in casual water or is embedded in its own pitchmark.

  See you next Tuesday.

                        WHAT KINDA CALL WAS THAT?
