I'll start by saying that the Year End Tournament is Sunday October 11 @11:30 with the price to be determined.
I know the year is coming to an end when I play the 18th hole in the dark and soon the porch will be filled with Stoughton High kids, so get to the course as early as you can so you don't get stuck behind these hackers.
The round of the week goes to Mike Bradley who if he didn't have a brain cramp putting on the 9th hole after reaching in 2 would have had closest to the pin and won the birdie pool. I guess he wasn't alone as 2 others reached 9 in 2 and did the same leaving Walsh's 6'6" to win closest to the pin.
I say if your going to have a bad day hopefully the person your teamed up with also has one. That was the case with Stefanick and Thompson with a close to record breaking minus 13 total.

Recap of the Judge Smails Cup Finals
The finals had Peters and the free swinging Bamford against TJ and myself. The first hole had Bamford put his drive it into the driving range twice which left this recurring theme of Peters to try and fend myself and TJ off. I sunk a long par putt on 1 as I had done in the previous 3 matches to put us up 1. TJ made a putt on 3 to go 2 up. Bamford was getting 4 shots and blasted a drive on 5, but his next shot was the dreaded shank and put him out of the hole and leave Peters to make a 5 to stay 2 down. The 6th, I drove the ball just over the green in the rough and Peters was safely on, but with a long putt. I chipped up close and made the putt and Peters could not 2 putt and suddenly they were 3 down. Bamford on 7 after a wild 2nd shot chipped to a 4 footer and made the putt finally helping his partner out with a 4 net 3. I birdied the 9th to make it 3 up going into the back 9. This is the first 18 hole match in Judge Smails Cup history, so Peters and Bamford still have a chance to come back. TJ and myself quickly start the back with par, par, par to go 5 up and this locomotive is starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. The match was dormie with 4 holes left when, Sweet mother of Pearl Bamford strikes again with an approach shot on 15 that left him with a tap in par, still these two need a miracle to happen and their dreams of getting the Judge Smails Cup ended on 16 when Bamford was between a rock and a hard place and Peters needing to chip in for birdie, while TJ and myself were safely on and putting for birdie, it didn't happen and the coveted cup belongs to TJ and Bino who dinged and donged through each of the matches to become Champions of the 2009 Judge Smails Cup.
Elsewhere in the league for the second time this year Stefanick takes home all the birdie money with a birdie on 8 and takes over the top spot on money leader board. He loves this league. McNeice wishes the league was the back 9 as he follows last weeks 35 with a blazing 36.
The league now hits the home stretch with the year end just over the horizon. Details on that will be posted in the coming weeks.

Recap Semi-Finals
The first match was Murphy and MacNeil going against Peters and Bamford. It was an uphill climb from the start for Murphy/MacNeil. They dropped the 1st and 3rd holes and needing to make something happen on 6 and Bamford getting a stroke a par was a must, but neither could sink a putt on this tricky front pin location, letting Bamford's bogie/par win the hole to go 3 up with 3 to go. Murphy was wishing his partner didn't show again, so he could take advantage of the 2 shot rule, but Peters par/birdie on 7 closed the door and the Hurricane that was once brewing has now passed to send Peters and Bamford on to the finals.
The second match had the fiercesome duo of Finn/Larosa up against Bino/TJ. I was getting an embarrassing amount of shots, but my play this year justified it. My feng-shui was all out of whack and somehow had to regain my mojo. The first hole started with a par/birdie for myself and feeling good getting another shot on 2 put my third shot in the kitty litter to the right. I had to relie on my partner to sink a testy par putt and he did. A par on 3 by Larosa and a birdie on 4 by Finn left us quickly 1 down. It was time to make something happen and take advantage of the next 3 stroke holes and that I did going par, par, par. 1 up going to the 7th hole, Larosa was down the middle and Finn's drive landed in the hazard while myself and TJ were both lying 0 in the fairway. Larosa puts his shot on the green but past the hole and here's where Finn hits the shot of the day, needing to drop a ball with a penalty stroke, hits his 3rd shot to within 8' from the hole. I chip to about 6', Finn sinks the putt for an improbable par and now needing to sink my 6 footer I consult with TJ to make sure I'm reading the putt right. I make it to stay 1 up with 2 to go. Larosa's second shot on 8 is about 5' left of the cup, but his putt broke to the right and we were off to the last. Finn's drive was 30 yards past the rest of our mere mortals drives and knowing they need birdie hits his 2nd into the trap before the green, Larosa in good position hits what looks like a perfect shot somehow goes over the green. TJ also is over leaving me to put it on the dance floor, and I did leaving myself a 15 footer. I started to breath a sigh of relief when Larosa somehow gets up and down for par. I again refer to TJ for advice on the putt, I sink the birdie putt to end it. Whew!!!!
Elsewhere in the league Halon gets on the money board with a birdie on 3 and now there's only 1 person left not to collect. I'm going to say I had the round of the day collecting in all categories with top indivual, team, closest to the pin and a birdie that held, to move up the money board. Mike McNeice shot and even par 35 on the back to card a 77. A congratulations goes out to Lou Halon for his hole in one last week at Acushnet River.

Recap Round 2
Stefanick and Thompson were in two separate matches, but they were both seen at the lawyers office suing for non-support.
The first match had Peters and no show no call Bamford vs Stefanick and Ippolito and without Bamford, Peters said no problem, I didn't need him last week and I don't need him this week. The match was close through 4 and that's when the red hot Peters took over by winning the next 4 holes to close out these two newcomers 3 and 2.
The next match had the powerful duo of Finn and Larsosa vs Thompson and Berke. Thompson gave these two all they could handle by battling back from 2 down after 5 to even the match up with a birdie on 8. They halved the 9th, but a par by Finn on 10 was too much for Thompson who gave it all he had, a crushing loss. To Berke's credit he was not feeling up to par and gave it his best.
The last match had Karas and Lyons vs myself and TJ. Lyons was on in 2 on the 2nd hole with and 8' eagle putt, he settled for birdie to even the match. It went back and forth until my bogie/par on 7 put myself and TJ 1 up. The 8th hole Karas sinks a clutch birdie putt to make it all square going into 9, with Lyons length off the tee I knew we were in trouble and sure enough he blasted his tee shot past the 2 traps and has 210 left. His next shot squirted left and that left us all putting for long birdies. TJ has to sink his par putt to extend the match and does. The 10th I again had to lean on my partner for another clutch par putt as I was out of the hole he does it again. The 11th had Karas in tight with a great chip and myself in the rough over the trap needing to get up and down or else this match is over. TJ had a long par putt just miss, I was next with about a 12 footer and made it, leaving Lyons to try and halve. He misses wide right, but with Karas, who's putter had been hot all day still left with a short putt lipped out, the match was over.
Other league news had a foursome not turn in their card, so therefore no prize money. The league is also waiting on 2nd half dues who's names I will not publish yet, don't make me do it. Just please pay up!!! Frank is also seeking birdie money.
