Recap

The weather was again a problem with the Johnson group playing the last 3 holes dodging the lighting bolts while others were stuck on Amen's corner (15,16 & 17) with no place to go.
The greens are rounding into shape finally, as they were smooth and fast, that didn't help me any but, my game has been stuck in the mud all year.
The round of the week goes to Jim Lyons. I played with him and he was out 4 holes, all he kept saying is he needs the points and 3 birdies and a couple of pars later adds up to 16 points. His birdie on 4 from 25' helped the birdie pool, as Frank Larosa hit his tee shot to with 3' for a tap in. Lyons closest to the pin shot on 9 was a thing of beauty, with his second shot in a bad lie in the trap, he hits it with right spin juice to 22.5" from the cup. God applauded with a loud thunder burst. Time to call it quits. A couple of other rounds of note are Rich McKenna and Frank Larosa who both shot even par.
Last week we had a discrepancy in the birdie pool with Freedman making a birdie on 2, which the league will make up for. Human error does happen and the committee will have to be more careful in checking the scorecards, just make sure you do your part in circling the birdie, and also notify me by email hightopper@gmail.com if you see an error after I post the winnings, so I can correct it before the money has been paid out.

Rules

This is a shorter version of the rules for the league.

All USGA rules apply, except:

Modification of lost ball rule: To speed up play, if, after 5 minutes of looking for a lost ball that's not in a hazard or out of bounds, and it can't be found, drop a ball in the search area and add a 1 stroke penalty. Do not give yourself an unfair line of play or distance advantage when dropping. This rule does not apply to a ball out of bounds, which is subject to stroke and distance. (Re-tee).

All balls must be holed if it is for a point or more. NO GIMMIES for points. Anyone who accepts a gimmie for a point will be disqualified for the night, including from the birdie pool.

Recap Week 4

The greens were better, but the weather didn't cooperate as it seemed the only place it rained on Tuesday, was Easton. A few fair weather golfers decided to call it quits and walked off after 6 holes, as Hulk Hogan would say to his son in jail complaining that his cell is to small, toughen up.
The round of the week goes to Gallagher, again a new member who I don't know his first name, came out firing with a +7 followed by Ed Finn who continued on to play 18 and shot a sizzling 77 with the adverse conditions. The 3rd hole is not safe for people on the green and Freedman on the tee, he hit it over the green.
The league has yet to put out a good measuring tape for the closest to the pin, so to save you time, use the flag stick which is 7' long until you get to within 3' and use that thing that is left on the side of the green.

A copy of SIGL Rules

SIGL General Rules

Some areas to clarify are:

Preferred Lies: (Local Rule ) You may play a preferred lie, no closer to the hole, in your own fairway. Anywhere else on the course (“through the green”) you must play the ball as it lies. Plugged Ball: (U.S.G.A. Rule) A ball plugged in its own plughole may be lifted, cleaned and dropped without penalty anywhere on the course except a hazard. Note: You cannot use this rule to get relief from a bad lie; the ball must be stuck in a hole created by its own impact. Out of Bounds: (U.S.G.A.) One stroke penalty and distance. This means hitting your next shot from the same place you hit your last shot. Do not go up to where the ball when out of bounds and play from there. When in doubt, play a provisional. LostBall not Out of Bounds: (Local) One stroke penalty but no distance penalty. Ex,A: If you hit a ball over the green on the 4th hole that you can’t find, drop in the approximate location of the: lost ball. You do not have to go back to the tee to hit. This keeps play moving. This does not apply if the ball is lost Out of Bounds (White Stakes.Taking a Drop: (U.S.G.A.) When taking relief with no penalty (obstruction, etc.) drop within one club length, no closer to the hole. When taking a penalty stroke (unplayable lie, etc.) drop within two club lengths, no closer to the hole. Hazards: (U.S.G.A.) A hazard is any sand bunker or water hazard. A ball cannot be lifted or touched in a hazard without penalty. (Exception: relief from casual water in a sand bunker.) A club cannot be grounded in a hazard. If a ball is unplayable or lost in a lateral water hazard (red), you can drop to the side of the hazard. If it is marked yellow, you must drop behind the hazard. Putting: (U.S.G.A. and Local) Every ball must be holed out during the league nine holes. There are no gimmees or pick-ups unless you have already maxed out. All damage to the green, including spike marks, may be repaired. You get relief, no closer to the hole, for obstructions (sprinklerhead), casual water, and severely damaged areas.

Reminder & Recap

The rules for the SIGL league is all putts must be holed out for points. That means no gimmies. You can roll over your ball in your own fairway and there is no fluff in the rough. Penalty will be a loss of that weeks individual and team prize money, if applicable. We have and eye in the sky watching over you so don't do it.
The greens have been tough over the last couple of weeks and putting is a lot of hoping and praying it jumps in the hole, next week we should see better scores.
Steve Savini had a good week collecting top individual and team honors, but Freedman continues to pound the ball leaving him with chip and putts for birdies. He collects on 2 more to boost his Year to Date winnings to $66. Frank Larosa comes back from the disabled list to shoot a ho hum 38. We'd like to welcome a new member Rich McKenna who is sure to make things interesting, as he has a single digit handicap.
