Hard to believe, but another SIGL regular season is now in the books. And many of us went out in style with strong performances. It was a particularly good night for the BEPeterson crowd as they dominated with some very impressive numbers.
Terry Moore saved his best night for last with a super 39, two birds, 17 points, a +7 and 1st Individual honors. And partner Mark Spears did not disappoint with his own outstanding +5 for a superb +12 team score. But, playing partners Steve Dasaro and Dan Szcurko said "not so fast" with Dan posting his own 39 and +6 complemented by Steve's 40 and +6 to knot it up at +12. So the card will show that Moore and Spears will prevail by virtue of Terry's fine birdie on 1, with Dan and Steve taking 2nd Team.
With Mr. Moore's +7 taking 1st, Szczurko and Dasaro at +6 each, were set to battle it out for 2nd Individual, but Red Rocketeer Chris Sullivan snuck in there with his own +6 and will take 2nd with his par on the first hole.
Mike McNeice was looking good for a long time with a fine approach on the CTP 4th hole to 8 feet, but Tall Terry Thompson came along and stuck one to a nifty 3'4". Nice. But wait a minute, Terry how come I don't see your name on the birdie list?
On the front side, we had a healthy 13 birdies that found the hole, with four that will get paid. Terry Moore's bird on 1 held up, the quietly efficient Dan Svirsky had a 3 on 3, Johnny MacNeil added to his earnings with a birdie on the 4th, and Mark Spears will get a quarter of the pot with a fine bird on 6. The 2nd hole (Dasaro, White), the 5th (Szczurko, Danieli), 7 (Moore, Bourne, Turchette), and 9 (Aronson, Bourne) had multiple birds.
We had a generous 26 entrants in the B9 skins pool, so it was very surprising that we had only three birdie attempts find the bottom of the hole. As required, the 13th was covered (Bill Doonan, Steve Lozzi), so Mark Nolan, recently returned from a super Irish golf trip, sunk a birdie on this side of the pond (the 16th hole to be more precise) that will take the whole pot. Isn't that grand.
Anyone who posted a +5 or better will be getting an envelope, but there were many good scores that will go unrewarded: Finn, Murphy, and Bourne all at +4, and D. Willard, Silvia, Chapman, and Mattes at 3 over quota. Highpointer is again Mr. Robert Bourne at 18 points, and yes Bob, highpointer still does not pay any money.
For the season, there was a total of $6,799 disbursed for weekly team, individual, CTP, and front and back skins pools. Ed Finn led the way with a super $538. Ten SIGLers earned over $200 and 28 players cashed $100 or more. And 51 out of 54 collected at least one envelope. More financial numbers will be posted after the year-end tournament.
And a fond farewell to one-time SIGLer and long-time Easton CC mainstay Bill Karas who died this week after a brief illness. Billy, you were the berries.
And finally, his birdie on 9 may not have survived on Tuesday, but Eric Aronson's 1 on Dennis Pines' 7th hole certainly did last Saturday as Eric proudly joined the Hole in One club with his first career ace! Nice going, counselor.
See you Sunday. (At Easton, not Epping)

WEEK 19 CTP 4TH HOLE
Although not that many showed up, those who did came to play as only 8 of 39 leaguers failed to hit their quota and 21 entrants posted +2 or better.
Dan Szczurko finished strong with birdies on 8 and 9 to produce 15 points and a healthy +5. Jay Chapman, playing better golf each week, this time doubled his 5 quota, earning his own +5. So we go to the card, and see that Jay's par on 1 will give him 1st Individual honors, with Dan taking 2nd.
Both standout Individuals were well supported by partners. Dan needed an alternate and drew co-worker Mark Spears who chipped in with a fine +3 to give the pair the 1st Team honors at +8. Mike Leonard had a productive night at +2 and that was good enough to give him and Mr. Chapman the 2nd Team prize at +7.
Peter Frasca went out early and posted an outstanding 9'3" on the Closest to Pin 2nd hole, that held up all day until Greg Willard came along late and rolled one up just a little closer at 7'6".
On the front, we had a decent 10 birdies, with three of them paying off. Peter Frasca made up for just missing out on CTP on 2 by sinking his 9'3" incher, Len Lima continues to collect every week, this time with a nice bird on 4, and Greg Willard (upon advice from counsel) will take the 5th. The 3rd hole (J. MacNeil, Keating), the 8th (Szczurko, Musgrove), and the 9th hole (Doonan, Szczurko, G. Willard) were birdied too often.
We had a healthy 25 contestants in the Back Nine skins pool, and nine birdies vied for a slice of the pie. But Ed Finn said, " I ain't sharing shit," and ran off with the whole damn $125 Boston Cream with his long-range birdie on 12. In the "You'll get nothing and like it!" category are Silvia, Keating, Lozzi, and Musgrove on 13 and McNeice, Frasca, Lozzi, and Murphy on the 18th.
As noted, almost everyone who showed up this week posted a good number. Outstanding performers who will not be receiving an envelope are Babyak, Musgrove, Payne, Bourne, Dasaro, and Curtis who all produced fine +3s. Bob Bourne was quietly Highpointer again, this week with 17 points.
And finally, we have only one more weekly round of golf, and then we have the year-end tourney on Sunday, October 13th with the first tee-time about 8:30. The following players have indicated that they will not be playing: Meyer, Musgrove, Bradley, McGarry, Payne, E. MacNeil, and Begley. If there is anyone else that should be on the Not Playing list, please let us know now. Pat Heffernan, we need an answer now whether you are In or Out.
See you next Tuesday.
