I guess it's amazing what a little friendly criticism and ridicule will do to turn our golf games around. Many SIGLers had outstanding nights, but none better than Mark Nolan, Esq,, who had his best night ever. After starting with a double bogey, he proceeded to be only one over par the rest of the way, good for 16 points and a +10, which earned him Individual honors.
Unfortunately for Mark, his partner was in negative territory, so the Team prize went to the dynamic duo of Rick Walsh (+6) and Ed Finn (+4), Rick having his best round in a while.
Len Lima likes getting envelopes, especially when there is money in them, so this week he decided to take CTP on 4 with a tidy 12 ft.
With the greens getting better, and our strokes starting to come around, the ball is starting to find the hole a little more each week. This week there were seven birdies, five of which lived. The red hot Mark Nolan had birds on 2 and 9, Bill Doonan cashed on 4, and steady Steve Lozzi got on the board on 5. On the 7th hole, Rick Walsh rolled in a beauty of a putt for a circled 3, but seconds later Easy Ed Finn, always trying to keep up with the Walshes, dropped one in right on top of him, Not to be denied, Rick promptly birdied 8, and Ed's valiant attempt to keep pace just missed. Meanwhile I was a mere bogey observer,
A lot of other golfers had really outstanding nights. Bob Loring, who used to be in baby clothes, but thankfully outgrew that habit a few years ago, is on quite a roll. For the league nine, Bob had 16 points (tied with Mark Nolan for high-pointer), good for a +5, and shot 77 for the night. The next morning, he followed that up with a stellar 75 in his Wednesday competition. Unfortunately, for all of that, Bob doesn't have a g.d. dime to show for it.
Other notables were Len Lima and Dan Szczurko at +4, and Peterson, Payne, Silva, Doonan, and Murphy, all at +3.
Housekeeping Dept.: 1) It has become obvious that a handful of golfers are not coming back, who never gave us the courtesy of letting us know that. Not only did they waste our time putting them on sign-in sheets and teams, etc.,but more importantly, they needlessly took spots away from a like number of prospective newcomers who we turned away because we were ostensibly full. If any of you may be interested in rejoining some time in the future, sorry, I think we may be full. 2) To prevent billing problems, do not sign in anyone's name but your own, and do not give the porch czar the names of group without knowing for sure that all of the names given are actually going to show up. These records are how Easton determines how much to bill the league. Two weeks in row, we have had problems revolving around this, and it is a real hassle trying to straighten it out.
And finally, we always like to acknowledge when an SIGLer gets a hole in one, whether in league play or not. So Mayhem Mike Bradley would like public credit for the ace he scored. For those of you keeping score at home, it was the 17th hole at Lakeville in 2001. Way to go, Mikey!
See you next Tuesday.

We've finally gotten some good golf weather and when the the greens starting coming back, then we'll be cooking with gas.
Another substandard collective performance for SIGL on Tuesday. Eliminating lack of skill as a possible source of the problem, we'll blame the greens. Only three birdies were bagged for the night and only a handful of golfers exceeded quota again. For the year, we have played over 1,000 holes of golf and we have a total of seven birdies. Maybe lack of skill does have something to do with it.
As always, there are exceptions to every rule, so we had a few standouts. Pride of Taunton Len Lima snagged Individual at +4. Quiet Irishman Paul McDermott (yeah there is such a thing) at +4 paired up with affable Brit Terry Moore at +4 to take Team honors at +8. Terry got the benefit of being a replacement for a player who would have been on the winning team but because he has not paid dues yet, is ineligible for prize money. The not so quiet Johnny MacNeil will cash for CTP on 2 at 18'0". Frank La Rosa was again high-pointer, this time with 15.
As noted, there were only three birdies for the night. Ryan Burke cashed on 4, Paul McDermott on 6, and sweet-swinging Lou Silva on 9. Each will be rewarded with $40.
And finally, for the few of you who remain unpaid, if you have not paid by the end of the night next Tuesday, you will be dropped from the league. No excuses will be accepted, except of course, "My dog ate my checkbook."
See you next Tuesday.
Don't make us unleash the dreaded SIGL Collections Staff on you.

Some say the golf season starts with the PGA Tour Hawaiian swing, while others say it's Masters weekend. But any golfer worth his salt, dammit, knows that the season doesn't start until SIGL says it starts. So let the games begin !
We're bursting our breeches this year, and not just because we've all gained 15 lbs. this winter. No, we start off with 60 golfers; the most in the illustrious history of the league. In fact, there is so much demand, we're happy to report that SIGL management is now able to solicit and accept bribes to guarantee membership.
We would like to welcome aboard a bunch of new players: Long-time Easton member, and longer-time good guy Lou Silva. Dave Naimo and Ralph Ippolito, who both took a year off to retool their swings. Wayne Musgrove, a friend of Teddy Meyer, although we have assured Wayne that we will not hold that against him. Scott Hruzd, newest soldier in the B.E. Peterson army. And the late entry foursome of John Hrenko, Dan Svirsky, Bill Doonan, and Rick Keating. (Rick warmed up for his SIGL debut by acing the 6th hole last Friday.)
With a winter's layoff, it was not surprising to see substandard performances by most. In fact, there were only ten individuals and only four teams that exceeded quota. However, a few of us came to play, and they were led by Dan Svirsky who shot his best nine holes in a while to finish at +6 and garner the Individual prize. Mayhem Mike Bradley has returned from shoulder surgery apparently with a new swing as he finished at +4 and teammate Tom Nolan was solid at +2, so they take the Team Prize at +6. Other notable scores were Frank LaRosa at +5 and John Hrenko at +4.
Apparently, it was tough to get it close on 14, as 54 ft. stood up for most of the night, until Capt, Naimo secured the CTP cash at 24 ft. 11 in. There were only four birdies for the night and two that lived. John Hrenko started off his SIGL career on the right foot with a birdie on 11, and the perpetual money machine Frank LaRosa birdied 17 to split the birdie pool with John. (The 17th is a very difficult hole to birdie, except for 73 year olds with bad knees and shoulders.) The only other birds were on 13, by M. Bradley and Johnny MacNeil.
And finally, let's keep our SIGL friend Steve Anderson in our thoughts after he underwent heart surgery last week, and will be out of golf commission for a couple of months. Steve, rest up, get well, and we'll see you back on the tee before you know it.
See you next Tuesday.
