Well, we're at the quarter pole of the season, the sun finally came out and all the fairweather golfers emerged from the their burrows, so we finally had a good attendance night.
Alot of good scores were turned in. Dan Szczurko came out of the box strong with a birdie on 1 which was worth $30 and surprsingly 8 held up for Paul McDermott. Ed Finn continues his impressive play and garnered closest to the pin on 9 and had a kick-in birdie. (Birdies on 3 and 9 were covered.) Greg Jurgilewicz, Peter Jaffe, and Marshall Poverman all had strong showings, but were not able to cash. Renowned mixologist and funnyman Obo observed that the f-bombs were flowing freely from Jurgy's mouth when he learned that +6 would not earn him a little cake. (He gets 15 points and all he got was this lousy tee-shirt, I mean this lousy blog blurb.) Greg, these things have a way of evening out: Some night you will be -2, but be on the winning team, or you'll birdie an easy hole and win $90. This humble hacker finally got out of a bogey funk and turned in a good round, earning 18 points, and the pride of Southie Joe Curtis played well enough to earn team honors and a few bucks for brews at the L Street Tavern.
Leading money winner Frank LaRosa is out for a while as he seeks treatment for lime disease, so let's wish him well. Also, here's hoping that Jim Thompson makes it back soon from surgery. (Each recap now contains a medical update section.)
Next week , the league competition will be played on the back nine, and the closest to the pin will be the 14th hole. We will still be able to play 18 holes if you normally do. Sign-in as usual, and then crack starter Steve Romano will take care of you.
On 6/12/12, Mark Lombardi's small league that follows us, is going to have a steak dinner after golf and has invited SIGL to join in. Grilled steaks will be served around 7:00 PM, and the cost will be $15. Mark needs a number from us, so we will put out a sign-up sheet at the desk next Tuesday. If you sign up then you are on the (meat) hook for the cost. Of course, any of you guys who are currently on the disabled list are also welcome. Just let me know.
And finally, Scorekeeping 101: 1) Circle birdies. 2) Don't circle non-birdies. We continue to get cards turned in where birdies are not circled and other cards with circles galore that have no birdies on them. Thanks.
