Recap Week 18
I feel the earth move under my feet as the earth quake hit. It's not enough to stop us from playing our weekly round of golf. Jim Lyons takes top honors sporting a boyish haircut had a +4 with 2 birdies. He walked into the barber shop earlier in the day and asked for a regular and instead got an irregular. TJ has some new Israeli mafia friends who he met at the function he was bar-tending last week that can take care of this guy for you. Kelly's cart ran out of gas and had to walk. Poverman gets off the schnide and on to the money board with a birdie on 4. Word is the quotas are like taxes...they always go up and never come down. The little bastards are back for our final 2 weeks to create havoc and for your own safety stay on the porch when these misfits are teeing off. Hurricane Irene is on her way so stay safe and don't park your car under a tree.

Recap Week 17
Week 17 had a ton of no-shows which only adds to the year end tournament kitty. Ed Finn finally gets some birdie pool money by birding the 7th hole and cashes in on team money to lift him from the bottom of the money leader board. We only have 3 people in the league who have not cashed in and time is running out. Chris Sullivan had his best round of the year to take top honors. Walsh is trying everything to break out of his slump, he tried consuming more swing oil, but it ain't working. A trip to the swing doctor might be in order. Peterson is back after touring with the Judge Smails Cup and tried to add to his money total by birding the 5th only to be knocked out by Joe Curtis very rare to have 2 on this tough hole. The 9th hole was tough to concentrate with the big band music playing in the background, TJ the bartender and league member came running out holding his hands to his ears, he couldn't take it anymore and they were lousy tippers.
A reminder the year end is September 25 and if you can't make it let us know.

Recap Week 16
The season is coming down the home stretch with 4 weeks remaining and TJ does not want to see it end after shooting another round of 1 over and piling up 19 points. Mike Kelly driving around in his mean machine eagles the 9th hole and with that gained top honors this week. Bamford gets a rare birdie on 7. Raynard gets to the 19th hole looking to the official scores to see if his birdie on 8 held only to see that is was knocked out, but that didn't stop him from celebrating. Peterson is busy touring with the Judge Smails Cup.
Rich McKenna joined our fearless leaders group to partake in a friendly match. McKenna supporting a 3 handicap had an off day striking the ball, but his short game is 2nd to none and I'll take you to the 17th hole where he puts his tee shot out of play on the right. He re tees and now lies 3 in the fairway, the 4th shot lands around the 2nd tee area and with a close match with Finn licking his chops sitting 2 on the green...McKenna needing to get it up and down from an impossible angle lofts it up and 2 bounces later the ball sits in the bottom of the cup for a miraculous bogey. He shoots 75 on an off day. WOW!!!

Recap Week 15
The Judge Smails Cup had two seasoned veterans and championship tested players in McNeice and Peters against the newcomers and not intimidated challengers Silvia and Peterson.
Silvia and Peterson jumped to a 2 up lead after 3 and increased it to 3 up on 7 when McNeice/Peters struggled with the tough 7th hole while Silvia/Peterson just kept playing off each other when one had a bad hole the other came through. This match still had a long way to go. The 9th had Peters stick his 3rd shot to 6' and a chance to cut into the lead, but he just misses and this dazed duo go to the back 9 three down. A stop at the snack bar for a quick motivational speech to try and get back into the match.
Silvia licking his chops getting 5 more shots on the back, but most of those don't come until Amen's corner....15,16,17 and 18. It didn't matter as nothing rattled these newbies, they both played steady and they came to 16 two up, Silvia puts his tee shot on the green while McNeice/Peters both struggled and getting a stroke calmly sinks the par putt to end the match. It's time to drink from the cup or not.
Congratulations to Scott and Steve as they are the 2011 Judge Smails Cup Champions.
League play had 3 of us with +6 rounds. TJ gets there with an improbable birdie on 9 with a wayward tee shot...a chip out to 210 yards only to put his 3rd shot 8' from the cup and sinks the putt for a 1 over par front 9. McDermott gets to +6 with birdies on 4 and 6 and I get there with a birdie on 5 and a chip in birdie on 9.
S.I.G.L. was well represented in the recently completed Easton C.C. match play tourney with Mike McNeice and Dave Peters as champs in their respective flights and LB as runner-up in his. When people play a bonafide SIGLer, their knees buckle.
In other news: The year-end tournament will be held on Sunday 9/25/11, first tee time approximately 11:20 AM. Heard on the street: Former perennial league MVP Rich McKenna will be making a guest appearance next week.
